Special Downpipe for the EVO MR, please help

Hi guys,

I am very new to this Evo forums since I just swapped from WRX to Evo MR.
Anyway, I am searching for a cat -back and also a Downpipe but I have read somewhere in this forums or perhaps in evolutionmr.net that the downpipes on the regular EVOVIII or the RS will not all fit into the MR since the Tranfer case and gerabox is complety different.

Is there any Downpipe manufacturer in this forum that could clarify me that, perhaps is there anyone here that could provide me with more info.

You can go to evolutionmr.net and see a couple of pictures that someone posted about the undercarriage of the MR, that would give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Thanks and I will be waiting for your response.

Carlos

Just an FYI - the WORKS 76mm downpipe works on the Evo MR. Only one I know of so far that works on 03s, 04s and 05s.

Hi again.. I will be more specific this time, go to evolutionmr.net and look for Engine/turbo subject, once you opened click on:

Stock MR downpipe and transfer case picture

and you will see the pic of the MR from the botton. Since I never owned a EVO before I can't tell, but you guys that have EVO's could tell me if the MR Downpipe is different or not.

Thanks

It looks pretty similar (maybe more bend at where the TC is) but 3in DP will not fit on the MR. Works 76mm (2.75 inch I beileve) should work fine.
Until someone makes a 3in DP for the MR, don't get a 3in DP.

Maybe stick with the Works 70mm DP. As you can see from the pic, Works DP has more bend around the TC area than most other DP which has minimal bends. Only way to fit a DP is to go around the TC on the '05 Evo and MR.

Thank you sooo much, you guys are awsome.

By the way, I called TurboXs this morning and they told me that they are aware that the MR has different gearbox and transfer case but they say that I can buy their Downpipe and if it does not work to send it back for a full refund.

Again, thanks or your replies, I think that I will go with the RS-R. Last but not least, will the RS-R Downpipe be compatible with any other cat back?

What type of exhaust do you have in addition to the RS-R downpipe Kmxxbadboy?

Thanks!!

The RS*R downpipe is compatible with any cat-back exhaust system with a two bolt flange. I have the Tanabe Ultra Medallion titanium cat-back on my MR.

Sorry about this silly question but how many cats the EVO has?, my WRX used to have 3 cats.

Last but not least, I think that I am ready for a full turbo back(down-pipe plus cat back) , which full turbo back is the one that makes the most horse power and not being too loud?

Turbo magazine did a 12 cat- back shootout for the WRX about 18 months ago, is there any info on which Catback/Downpipe would make the most power?

Thanks

Kmaxxbadboy,

I don't want to be an a$$hole but I just found some information about the RS-R downpipe that I don't like a bit.

I have a magazine called Power Pages that is made by the big editorial IMPORT TUNER magazine.
Anyway, on page 60 to 64 they tested a 2003 red Evo onXS Engineering Dynamic Test System Dyno and these are the follwing results:

Baseline 236whp/238.9lbs-tq

with RS-R Downpipe it looses -5.2whp -14lbs/tq
with RS-R GT-2 cat-back gains 6.8whp 34lbs-tq
With XS FMIC it gains 2whp 1lbs/tq

Please, I wish your opinions , I was minutes away from ordering the RS-R Downpipe and now I have my reservations as you would understand
