EVO IX RS or used 2004 EVO VIII?

I was just figuring the numbers in my head and noticed that if I were to have $3,000-$4,000 down on a low low mileage used 2004 EVO VIII for say $24,000 I would end up with a monthly payment of roughly $400.00 per. I was considering a used EVO RS as well and I am very aware of the sacrafices that would need to be made such as no HID (zenon bulbs are $40 bucks) no A/C, no power windows, locks or mirrors, and no wing (forgive me if I am missing some other things). I like it because it's different, I don't see too many RS's out there and it just seems to be a bit more hardcore race car which is cool to me... somewhat original compared to the rest. If I were to get a brand new 2006 EVO IX RS, I would not have to worry about who has abused my car, I would have the new and improved with 0 miles... a big fat ZERO ish on the ODO and I would be able to choose my color. I guess the MSRP on one is around $28,000 or so, say I get one for $27,000 and change and put $3-4,000 down. I will end up with a payment of about $450 ish per mo... is $50 bucks more per mo worth having a brand new IX RS? I thought of it in this perspective and wacked myself in the head "DOH! Why didn't I think of that anyways?" I plan on buying around this time next year, they won't even be released until late summer/fall. What do you guys think I should do? Crank windows are not that bad, I hear the regular headlamps are better than HID's, sunroof (who cares) and I have to push down the door lock... all minor and I save a couple hundred pounds and some cash.

i am all about buying new, cause you never know what problems the 'used' car may have.
if you can live without luxury, then get the rs9. if not somehow get the gsr9

considering that your name is EVOboostVIII, i would go with the used viii
shouldnt have any mechanical problems if it has really low miles.. unless every single one of those miles were dragged on stock internals without replacing a single one before selling..

The current VIII RS is $28.5k. So, the MSRP on the new IX RS is going to be around $29k. You may be lucky, but it's doubtful that you will get a 1k discount on the IX when it is first launched (you probably could on the VIII RS and might even be able to negotiate a bigger one).

Don't know what your State taxes are, but you're probably looking at around $31k for the IX RS out-the-door at MSRP (at 6.25% tax). Even with a 4k downpayment, you're looking at $510 per month if you finance $27k over 5 years at 5%.

I live in Portland, how about yourself? Well I was just really intrigued by it because I like the RS, for some reason it's attributes just stand out more to me making it more appealing. I would not be buying it close to launch, I don't plan on getting my EVO until this time next year or around that time, it depends on when I get back from training. I would have to pay taxes on a used one as well correct? I just thought I saw an excuse for me to get brand new even if it was an RS... with brand new you don't really need to shop for the car just the right price and if I could get one for $27,000 (more than likely I would have to have it ordered because it will be a frozen day in hell when one of our maine dealerships has an RS on the lot, they have a very tough time selling EVO VIII"s... I'm not going to count on finding a leftover either that is just not in my train of thought it is too "what if". I'm just torn between weather or not buying used and having it REALLY feel like MY car, or sloppy seconds even if it has been treated well. Would you rather do a virgin and know where shes been or get a chick that's been had before and for all you know the ***** is lying about where shes been and you catch somethin hahaha. Know what I mean? So if I were to get a brand new RS even at 5% my payment will still be about $500 per??? That sucks, in that case I would not be willing to go with brand new.

IMO it depends on how earily you want to start modding. If you want to start right away I say go with the 8. Itll save you a little loot and you can put on some cheap bolt-on if its the looks of the 9 you like just get the bumper cover put on.

If you're going to wait until this time next year, your only options for a brand new RS would be to find a leftover VIII RS on a dealer's lot and negotiate a bargain-basement price. You might be able to get a leftover one for invoice which would probably put you around $28-$29k out-the-door with taxes & everything included. If you had a $4k downpayment, you may be able to get your monthly down to around $450 per month over 5 years (that's if you get a stellar deal on the car and you can secure a 24.5k loan at 5% or less).

Since the IX is only supposed to come out sometime in the Fall of '05, then by Spring-time '06, when you're ready to buy, it would still be considered a relatively new model by the dealerships and you may find it hard to negotiate a discount (depends on how popular the IX is). So it could cost you the full MSRP of around $29k (+ taxes on top of that). Whichever way you cut it, buying a brand new IX RS is probably going to cost you around $30k out-the-door this time next year.

I'm fairly hard core and I wouldn't want an RS unless I'm trailering it to events.

I wouldn't pay $29,000 and settle with manua l locks and windows - and more important no ABS.

I know an RS that upgraded power stuff off a crashed GSR - so that is a big +

you can't change no ABS.
