I want a minimum of ~360hp at the crank. That was what my old T/A made with just an exhaust so it feels like a baseline for me, and it should be a piece of cake to get that with the X. Though I think 350 or 400 AWHP will be my final goal.

Also, the law here in Singapore is *really* strict about modifications. Certain mods are fine (suspension, tires), but they're really sticky about exhaust modifications. You have to run either stock or certain limited approved aftermarket exhausts. Here the police can just stop you on the road, ask you to follow them straight to an inspection center and you get slapped with heavy fines on the spot if you're not in compliance. *And* you still need to revert the illegal parts to stock and bring it back for a re-inspection.

Plus cars here are really $$$$$. The Evo X will most likely cost over SGD$170,000 (US$111,000) with all the taxes in. I really don't want to break the car and have warranty troubles, at least until finances are a little more secure. Gotta start saving the pennies (or cents).

thats not entirely true... its usually cause the car gets raced/ragged on and the maintenance is not kept up on. if ur racing be religous about checking/toping off/changing the oil/trans fluid. get ur valves lashed every so often. keep up and use whatever aftermarket fluids work well with ur car. u keep up with that and dont totaly rag on ur modded out car it will def last and be just as reliable. all ur doing with most mods is improving the flow of air. so unless ur doing crazy mods and dont have the other supporting mods and not keeping up with ur maint. ur reliabilty wont be hindered

i used to work at a mitsu/sub dealership.... most of the evos/stis that came in for warranty work or with blown motors was all because maintenance was not kept. ive hung out in shops where lots of eclipses/evos/stis have came in and ive asked them about there maint and they never check there oil between oil changes. then they leave doing all wheel drive burn outs. i just sit back n laugh cause how can u have a turbo car and not check ur oil between oil changes when u beat the **** out of it.

Some of what I read in this thread reminds me of the new 2.5L STI block a few years back and how everyone said it'll never make power. It's been 4 years and there starting to come out with some fast STIs. I think the same with the Evo. How long did it take to get an Evo IX mivec cam? A few months?

Plenty of space to work under the hood of the X. Just take a peek under the hood of a lancer.
