Evo IX: Future Classic?
I think the 03-06 will be the classics. With the 06 probably being a little more rare since it was only made for one year. I Don't know about reaching the status like the Supra has but it'll be up there hopefully.

bull****, thats like saying a Mk3 supra is more of a classic than a Mk4. Sorry but stop ***cing wishing. If the EVO X was the last of the Evos, than it would be the classic. Its all a matter of whats the last model to end its production. On top of that you have no idea how good the EVO x will be, most likely it will rape the 03-06's, considering the whole purpose of building an new evo is to improve over the last.

So will evo IX a future classic? Yes and No. Same can be said about any car so in my opinion arguing if a evo will become a classic = pointless
Classic car is a term frequently used to describe an older car, but the exact meaning is subject to differences in opinion. Some are very inclusive, considering any older car in fine condition a classic. Others, including the "Concours d'Elegance" and the Classic Car Club of America maintain that 1948 is the last year for the true classics.

I have owned 2 Evo VIII's and now a IX so I am not saying this because I have a IX. I think both cars will be classics but think the IX will be more desired and rare because not only was it made one year, it has mivec, better front end, taillights, headlights and interior. 1 year is all for the IX's which will make them rare eventually especially in stock form. The SE and MR with SE package will be the most desired I believe. For whoever it was on here that said a IX is an 8.5 your wrong or else they should have called the 8 a 7.5 because it shares the same motor and like the VIII and IX following it, it has the basic same body with different bumpers, lights etc... 
evos will never be a classic because they are still made. even though the evo10 is a whole different car altogether, it wont be seen as such. supra on the other hand are made no more... future supras will not be called supras at all, hence its rarity.

Do you think 14 years ago in 1993 RX7 and Supra owners were debating this? I think not, leave it in the hands of the future buyers... A car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it...
As for what you said, the average consumer purchases this car to drive, not to mod. With this being said, they are probably building the new one to be much more conservative that any of the previous ones. Much heavier, and basically an automatic (you will see a larger range of people driving evo's in the near future)
I might not be right here, but according to photos, and how mitsu designers talk, the X will be more suitable for daily driving, and safer too. We will just have to wait and see....
So, what do you think? Most importantly, why?
With lots of speculation about the next generation of sports cars/ GTs, I wonder how the Evo IX will stand the test of time. Is the Evo IX another disposable Japanese car destined to be forgotten with the next model release? Or will the Evo IX be a memorable car, more along the lines of the E30 M3? Which is a more realistic expectation for you: hold for the long run or move on to the next hot car?
If you wouldn't mind, please include some demographics.

My opinion only, the 2005&2006 Evo 8 are the only comparable models to the Evo 9. Other than RS variants, the earlier Evo 8s were missing a key drivetrain component (front LSD).
With Mitsubishi's reputation here in the U.S., it's going to be about as classic as people thought the GSX Eclipse will be! I believe you can pick one of those up for about 2K now.
