Win what? The ugly award? People, the STI in that photo is a Focus. Plain and simple.

Based on what?
I say EVO X looks better so it's a winner in that department, but as far as the performance goes, no one knows until these two go head to head on the track.
Done.

Cars are now being rated by horsepower more accuratly, changing the angle on performance by numbers analyzation. If you notice, the new 2007 sti makes a little less power than the 2005 stis yet was quoted to be making more power. So, based on what they are saying by numbers is really a different and actually totally new way of seeing power so to base quarter mile times at 12.5 at 330 horses might actually be right on.

It seems to me like Mitsu's waiting to find out what the STI output ballpark will be and that they'll adjust to be competitive. I like the Evo's styling, and the electronic yaw and stability control would be nice, not to mention the twin-clutch system (especially if it's anything like Audi's). All in all, I'd rather have the Evo than the hatchback monstrosity that is the STI. The 'roided-Focus observations are right on. Besides, so what if the Evo's a bit slower out of the box...is anyone who buys one of these going to keep it bone stock anyway?

Lancer Ralliart = 2844lbs

IX = 3262lbs

3262 - 2844 = 418lbs....the EVO is 418lbs heavier than the top FWD Lancer.

Lancer GTS = 3100lbs + 418lbs........EVO X = 3500lbs???

Does that mean anything? No, but I could easily see the X coming in at 3450-3500lbs. If that's the case, it'll take 320hp to keep up with a IX when it comes to acceleration.

Don't forget we get a lighter engine now. How much lighter is the aluminum block again? Never mind AYC probably adds the weight difference. I was afraid of 3500lbs.

Well ~200lbs of weight were added to the base lancers chassis to increase its stiff ness for the EVO 8 or 9.

Currently the 08 Lancer has a stiffer chassis than our EVO's. The new EVO X will not need those reinforces. So the new evo might weight about the same or within 100 lbs of our current evos.

There's just too much speculation. We'll find out soon enough what the new evo will look like. To me those pics look like a hoax. The tires one the left and right side are different. The wheels look terrible. The look like the ones on the 08 GTS.

I'll just wait to see. If the diffenece is anything like the difference between the 06 lancer vs the 08 lancer. The new EVO X will be far superior to either the 8 or 9.

pretty good article... too much speculation, though. I won't get excited about anything until I see official numbers(EVO weight of 3500LBS!??!) and an official pic of the STi.

You could be right but then there is some hope in the fact that base Dodge Caliber which is built on similar platform as the new Lancer weights in at around 2900-3000 pounds (roughly the same as base Lancer). Caliber R/T AWD weights in at 3308lbs. Add to that the fact that Evo X for sure will have more aluminum components such as hood, roof, suspension and it actually seems possible that Evo X will weight in at around 3300-3350.

As far as weight comparison between the last generation base Lancer and Evo IX and the new base Lancer and Evo X is kind of pointless, you gotta remember that last gen base Lancer and Evo were really two different cars, Evo IX had a much stiffer/heavier frame, didn't share many parts with the base Lancer (first off the 4G63 engine was a lot more heavier than the 4G69 found in last gen Ralliart). With Evo X it seems to be a bit different, there will be more component sharing which tends me to believe that there won't be 400 lbs in weight difference between GTS and Evo X. Basically Lancer GTS should be a lot more closer to the Evo X than last gen base Lancer was to Evo VIII/IX. Of course there will be optimizations for the Evo X Iit's already known that it will have a wider track than the base new Lancer) but I think Mitsubishi realizes the potential overweight problem in Evo X.

Hmm... Seems like Subie is pretty confident on the look of next years Impreza and WRX.

At any rate, I've been a Mitsu fan for a pretty long time and i love the look of the Evo X.
