No, first year sti's came with a suretrac front lsd and the 05s came with the helical front lsd, the bigger concern was that 04 sti's came with the 5X100 bolt pattern with weak wheel bearings then in 05 they went to a 5X114 with stonger more durable wheel bearings.

I can't really speak on any problems with the EVO X because it hasn't been released yet, but what I would love to see is if the EVO X improves upon some of the small issues some one may have with a stock EVO IX or VIII. I wouldn't call these problems, the EVO IX is an awesome car, but every car can use a little improvement. These are some of things I am very interested to learn about when it comes to the EVO X.

The EVO X stock turbo-

Is it a brand new turbo, revised, or a carry over? Can it be swapped into a IX or VIII? How much boost can it hold effeciently, how much power can be made on the stock turbo? How big is it? How about lag, when does it hit full boost? What is full boost, still 19.5 to 20psi like stock IXs and VIIIs?

The EVO X Gearing and Aerodynamics-

Shorter or longer gears? What is the top speed? Is it more aerodynamic than a EVO IX or VIII? Looks like it is to me, but that is just looks, won't be able to know until the car is tested. How hard does it pull after 100-105mph, does it pull harder than a VIII and IX, much harder? Where is the redline? 7500-7600RPM? Rumors are saying it will rev higher. What does this mean for power down low, will the EVO X feel more powerful at low speeds in high gears, or still feel a little sluggish like the IX or VIII? Will it feel even more sluggish? If it does rev higher, what will that mean for 1/4 mile drag racers? Will the EVO X be clicking off some ultra impressive 1/4 mile times? What about durability of the stock clutch, will Mitsubishi finally address this problem, and will we be able to have 400-450whp EVO Xs with multiple hard launches still on the stock clutch?

What about passenger room and comfort-

Will the EVO X still offer impressive passenger room and space? How about the Navi, will it be available for the EVO X too? What other creature comforts will be available for the EVO X?

What about other models-

Will there still be a RS, how much lighter? I'm thinking that if the RS is made available it will be a lot lighter than the regular EVO X. What about the MR, will it finally REALLY justify its extra cost, and pull away substantially from the regular and RS model?

What about the power-

What about the area under the curve? On paper the powertrain differences between the EVO IX and VIII seem small, but that is on paper. We all know there are some dramatic differences between the two. Will this be the same for the EVO X and IX?

These are just some of the questions I look forward to having answered, and is why I do not share others hatred toward the EVO X. I think this is a great time to be a Mitsubishi and EVO owner, because I really do believe the EVO X will not only benefit Mitsubishi and EVO X owners, but benefit us all. In my opinion Mitsubishi has done more with it's EVO brand than Subaru has done with the STI. It seems to me that Mitsubishi has stepped up it's game and has positioned the EVO X to take on more serious contenders, than just the STI. The EVO X as a sport sedan looks light years beyond what Subaru has to offer. Brand new body, brand new engine, brand new transmission, upgraded suspension, upgraded interior, options that were not available previously will now be available with the X. The STI on the other hand, continues a long with the same engine, perhaps tuned for a little more power. Turbo probably remains the same and still will remain limited. The body and look of the STI looks like Subaru is trying to reach a younger crowd, but that younger crowd doesn't always have the money to buy a $35,000 car. Many older crowds are hesistant to buy a $35,000 hatch/wagon that is suppose to be a sport sedan. How about the aerodynamics of a hatch/wagon. I don't understand how anybody looks at the Subaru product with anticipation, nothing about it is special or new except for the look which in my opinion is the worst look yet. The EVO on the other hand has a lot new to offer and many of the problems I may have had with the IX, I hope are addressed with the EVO X.

Are there any common and consistent problems with the new Lancers?

Granted the Lancer doesn't undergo the same level of flogging that the Evo will, but they can still have problems across the model line. So, anyone in the '08 Lancer circles know of any common issues? They may be indicative of what we might see with the Evo X.

On the other hand, the Evo X will be in the *second* year of the new platform. So it may not be plagued by the same issues. The first year Lancers may very well help Mitsu iron out the smaller, more annoying issues before the first X even hits a dealership floor.

I think if there are issues, they will be specificly with the Evo's parts. Which, admittedly, is no small number. But the chassis itself should be free of most of the new-car bugs.
You know, that's a very good question. I hadn't even thought of that. While the Evo X will be a first year, it isn't the first year for the platform, so it might be a little safer than the usual first model year cars.

As far as having a warranty to mitigate any 1st year problems (that someone else mentioned), that's not always the case. Sometimes, there are problems that are inherent to the design, that CAN'T be fixed by a simple warranty part replacement or quick dealer visit. Those are the kinds of problems you try to avoid by waiting the extra year. Draco's point here is pretty good in that having the lancer out already will help a lot in working out those big issues.
