Drive by wire or by cable?

What would you rather have drive by wire or cable driven throttlebody?

If adjusted properly, drive by wire feels the same as cable. I used to forget I had drive by wire on the Legacy.

I have Drive by wire on my bike and I love it, the throttle response is very very smooth, not jerky at all.

I would prefer drive by cable. I like that I can feel the vibrations of the engine through the gas pedal. But I could live with a well-tuned DBW, but for one thing...

I drove a friend's '07 Mustang GT and I'm pretty sure it's DBW. One thing that drove me nuts was that I couldn't 'blip' the throttle. The engine would not respond at all to short sharp stabs at the pedal. If it was drive by cable, I'd think the cable was slack. I hope this isn't a common occurance with DBW systems. I'm sure I could get used to it, learning to use a heavier foot when rev-matching, but it would annoy me for quite a while.

yeah, thats how it is with my legacy GT. its drive by wire, so i need to give the pedal a harder push when i blip the throttle when down-shifting. sucked in the beginning to get used to, but now i think i got the hang of it.

Erf.. Oh well. I'll have to learn. It certainly isn't a dealbreaker for the X.

There is just a bit of a lag when you push the pedal down with DBW... for my money I'd stick with a cable, it's cheaper to replace when it breaks.

I'm sure it will be DBW. I'm not dead set on either style.

I thought I read that the IX was DBW? Or am I mistaken?

It probably is. Most cars after 06 are DBW.

DBW is annoying as hell..
And a pitb if you something happens..

I test drove a lot of cars before getting the EVO and some of the cars I didn't even want to finish the drive in.. The GTI for example... there is so much computer input into the driving.. it is annoying.

I was watching SpeedWorld Challenge the other day.. and one of the BMWs had problems with it and he had to drop out completely.. if it were cable driven.. he could have gone in.. a little repair and finished the race..

DBW is better, though it is often tuned for reasons other than driving pleasure, economy, emissions, and test drives come to mind. In an Evo, I would think this wouldn't be a concern.

"Program" the 05 STI throttle map onto your LGT and it will be much sportier feeling. Night and day difference.

I prefer cable. Have VW and Audi with DBW and there is something lacking... lack of feel mostly. It feels isolated, disconnected... like a video game. And the biggest gripe, as people mentioned already, is the cut-ins from the car because it apparently knows better than you. If you try to left foot brake, it cuts all power to the engine after 2 seconds....talk about LAME! (and no, that does not go away if you disable the traction control crap, the car still thinks it knows better than you weather you like or not.)
