New spy shots of the 2009 Lancer Evolution...umm...Ralliart?
This is because the new one will be more expensive than the current model PLUS the fact that delaerships will charge a premium (possibly $5,000) added on top of the MSRP - at least for the first while. I don't know if that's true, that's just what I heard.
I hope that's not the case.
Do you really think Mitsu is that dumb to price themselves out of the market? NO. It will more than likely tip 39,000 with the SST trans and the technology pkg. There will still be a lower end Evo. The RA/GSX should range between 23-26k.

That's what I'm thinking. I heard speculation from a Mitsubishi dealerhip that when the new EVO X somes out, it will be selling for very close to $50,000.

1st, it's based on a Lancer. Noone's going to pay $50K for a lancer. We, the enthusiasts who know what the car can do, are a very small percentage. Not that I'd pay $50K for an Evo.
2nd, as another has pointed out, for $50K there are better cars out there that the Evo is not ready to compete with in the market.
Also, $5K over is stupid. Period. Dealerships could charge that for the Evo when it first came to the US, because there were no other Evos out there. Hell there was no other car like it. But now, not only do you have the STI, but you have a USED MARKET for Evos. If someone really wants the Evo name, they can buy a used one for much less. And finally, for about $2000 you can ship a car in a covered carrier across the US, and you'd save $3000. (not that you'd have to go that far to find a dealership that will sell for MSRP.)
Any dealer that wants $5K over MSRP is telling me they'd rather I spend my money elsewhere. Which I will be more than happy to do.
I hope not.
It's not entirely out of the question, but I hop not. GSX is an old name, why mess with old things? It's broken, time to fix it. Ralliart as a brand name is pretty wide spread now, even MORE so popular in Canada. Throwing around new names for there cars in some cases may confuse there customers who are already use to the name. Plus when I think of GSX, I think of the Eclipse, which is a coupe, not a 4 door turbo sedan a la 2008 Ralliart.
False.
Mitsubishi will not sale the Evo X for 50k, hell Mitsubishi couldn't even move the Evo X off the lot for that price if they wanted too. Look for it to be slightly higher than the current Evo IX, so the X should go in the 35k - 39k range. It'll *probably hit 40k due to dealer markeup.

Could you bolt in the manifolds, turbo, intake, intercooler, and exhaust? Sure.
Would it run? Not well if at all.
You'll need to tune it, and even then you won't be able to make the same power. The 4B11 in the Lancer runs a 10:1 compression ratio. To get the most out of forced induction, you need to run a lower ratio. For example, the Evo IX runs 8.8:1. So to get the Evo X's power from your '08 Lancer, you'll also need the Evo's pistons.
And all of this is assuming that the Evo's head is the same as the Lancer's, which isn't likely. It's very possible you'd have to swap the heads too.
When it comes down to it, if you want Evo power, you'll need the Evo's engine, even though it shares the same block.

I would look at the new lancer as the civic motor swaps was to Honda. They all use the same 4B11 base with of course different internals. I expect to see alot of front wheel drive turbo lancers from just swapping from the evo x or RA/GSX.
This is assuming the wiring harness is the same, and the ecu is the same, etc... Lots of variables, but if theres a market I'm sure a solution will be brought forth. As big as the DSM/EVO following is, I'm sure the market for used parts from the X to the RA/GSX/GTS will be quite large.
Yes.
You don't have to mimic the dna of the 4B11T to get Evo X power on your Lancer GTS. There are other ways [cough] RRM, RPW [/cough] to go about this.
