Sept. 07 Motor Trend (Evo X 0-60 numbers)
So I got the new issue of Motor Trend today (Red Cadillac CTS on the cover). Anyway i wasn't expecting much, but when i got to the 2008-2009 New Cas Guide, they had "estimated" the 0-60 for the Evo X to be somewhere in the 3.8-4.0 second range
I don't know what they are smoking, but come on. That's way off. Has anybody else seen this?

Then they will publish it, never saying it's speculation, making it sound like fact. That way, when the car comes out, if they are right they can say "We had it here first!" But if they're wrong, they'll just sweep it under the rug and pretend they never said it in the first place.
There's so much screwed up information out there being spread by the magazines and people are taking it as fact. (3500lbs, 3.8 0-60, 12.5 1/4mi, less than 300hp) We know the less than 300hp thing is false (311lb-ft tq on a 7000rpm 2.0L engine, less than 300hp? yeah right).
Let's wait until the specs are out in a month or two, and then we can see what the car actually does when the magazines get their hands on a REAL Evo X, rather than an imaginary one.
Looking at the numbers I'm betting on (3350lbs, 310-325hp), a 0-60 calc says 4.6-4.7
EDIT: Hmm, the IX does the 0-60 in 4.4. So this puts my numbers on-track for my initial speculation; the IX being slightly quicker to 60 than a manual X, the SST X being slightly quicker than the IX.

I found this on the motortrend website. Pretty sure it's a repost though.

It's all just rumors as I don't think no magazine has driven a production Evo X, but if weight will be around 3500 with around 295-300HP (unless the engine is heavily underrated and actual HP figures will be higher than reported), I don't think it would be possible to get a 4.0 sec 0-60 time. However, I don't think Evo X (even with SSt tranny) will weight 3500lbs, nor will it have 295HP. Just like Draco-REX mentioned, the 311lbs-ft in a high-reving square bore DOHC engine means that HP numbers will be definately higher than 300, My guess is somewhere around 315-330HPs. And with weight similar to current Evo IX (3300-3350lbs), I think that 0-60 in 4.0sec. with a new traction system, SST, and well matched tires is actually possible.
You know, your two responses make me wonder:
The Evo 9 supposedly hits 60mph in 4.4 to 4.5 seconds. In order to get these times, do you have to sidestep the clutch when you launch, or can you achieve those times with a less abusive launch?
