Evo X latest info
Has anyone come across any references to the size or flow capacity of the turbocharger on the new X? People have been getting crazy amounts of power with the stock units on the VIII and IX so I'm kinda curious what the capabilities could be with the stock unit on the newer car.
If I'm reading it right, it looks like the first graph is how long it takes the boost to go from -400mmHg (-7psi) to +800mmHg (+15.5PSI) at 2500rpm, and the second is at 4000rpm. Seems the X will build pressure 18% faster at low RPMs, and 9% faster at higher RPMs.
Unfortunately, this really doesn't tell us much for a couple reasons.
1. The show a different impeller design, but that doens't mean much. Specially without showing the housing.
2. We know the dyno graph has been manipulated, so we cna't take any serious clues from that.
3. The picture above the graphs shows that the X's intercooler piping is smoother and shorter than the IX. (Wonders of building with the Evo in mind from the start)
4. I'm not sure about this one, but that exhaust system looks very straight. I don't know how it compares to the IX, but it may be more efficient as well.
All of these factors can effect boost. So the only thing we can know for sure from these graphs is that stock for stock, the X wll be in the boost faster and longer than the IX. We still don't know anything solid about how it will take to mods. And I don't think we will know until tuners start pushing the X's limits. However, stock for stock (which is what Magazines look at) the X is shaping up to be, forgive me, an Evo Killer.
