this goes into the same category as carbon fiber this or that to save 15 grams of weight. friggin ridiculous wannabe racer crap that is impractical and "hardcore' for the sake of being hardcore, not for the sake of winning an actual competition...
i applaud mitsubishi for offering the RS as a regular production trim not just a limited run for homologation. but i laugh at people who don't legitimately race these things. instead they say that they CAN race it and that it WOULD do better than a well equipped, heavier car. WHOOP DEE FRIGGIN DO!!!!!!
these people are using the car to buy groceries and to go to work. no full opposite lock drifts over gravel and dirt there...last piece of venting is that the S-AWC car will ALWAYS handle BETTER than the non S-AWC car. ALWAYS! fun is in the eye of the beholder. if you like being slower, like drifting, then more power to you. but don't say something like drifting is more fun than grip. that would be an individual's opinion. but grip faster than drift? scientific fact.
no human on earth can beat ABS EVERY time. yes some very talented people with a lot of experience and PRACTICE can threshold brake and "beat" ABS in overall braking distance here and there BUT they will NEVER do it 100% of the time and in what conditions? snow? ice? oil slick highway? care to bet your life on your threshold braking ability? how about the life of someone else?
Even if they only perform better than the ABS 51% of the time, it is better to have the ABS removed.
Also, ABS takes up weight, which decreases performance in both straight-line and turning applications.
I want to respond to that ...
One word: Spoiler. You know that big thing that sits atop the trunk lid? I, for one, don't mind it. Some people absolutely hate it. I know it's functional and adds nostalgia about the Evo. However, if you apply your mentality towards that wing, well, it'd make it useless for a daily driven road car. I mean, it worsens gas mileage, it obsures the rear view. Nevermind that it adds rear downforce at unlawful road speed, or that it's traditional and/or gives the driver a sense that he/she is driving something truly special. All in all, if I was to think with your mentality, I'd say the Evo is one the worst road cars to have as a daily driver. The Evo contradicts your argument, as the regular Evo is every bit as hardcore as an RS. The non-RS Evos could be seen as more hardcore to the normal guy/gal because it looks the part. What with their vortex generators, dark BBS rims, more aggressive air dams, and, yes, that famous wing - all in perception. My RS is better around town, IN MY OPINION, because it better behaves at legit, legal street speeds, say anything under 75 mph. I believe that I have the most conservative looking Evo, also. It's red. It has silver rims. It has no wing, VG, exaggerated front lip/air dam. It is my Ferrari ... My poor man's Ferrari.
Above all, I didn't buy my RS because it's more "ricer," as you called it. Your definition of ricer, when applied to ABS is flat wrong. Never did I say that I can brake better than the other guy in his/her ABS equipped Evo. I claimed that no ABS in an Evo can be more fun. I can more readily rotate my car because I have no ABS. I regard balance and getting sideways as more fun than sheer grip.
You wrote that you laugh at me for not "legitimately" racing my RS. You are narrowminded. I've said this before. I'll say it again. Think outside the box. Maybe there are other reasons that you can't fathom or aren't creative enough to think up yourself.
I did a bunch of research here on EvoM - over a year's worth. Here are some things that sold me on the RS. None, you will find, are your version of "ricer."
"test drove an 05 RS last night impressions inside."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My test drive was not brief and since I already purchase two MRs from the same dealership, they just handed over the keys to me to take on a test run.
Weather conditions: Cold mid 30s.
Location: Somewhere in freehold I found a nice road that said "twisty roads" <-- no BS
The car was not abused and not once that I touch the 5k RPM.
By the time that I left the parking lot, I already felt that the 05 RS is faster and more responsive than the MR. The 5 speed is better suited for track driving as you do not have to shift as often but I find out that there is more turbo lag than the MR. When the turbo finally spooled around 3000 rpm, the RS shot up like a banshee. The difference in smoothness of the power curve between the MR and the RS was so obvious that i found myself saying "holy***T" .
The 05 RS felt more connected and it quickly became an extension of the driver. While I banked it into the first jughandle, Its response was extremly precise and I believe this has to do with the stiffer struts and shocks. The RS steering felt quicker than the MR as I found myself correcting my steering input the majority of the ride. I'm not saying that the MR steering is not quick, I'm simply saying that between the RS and the MR, the steering was so fast that it almost feel like it is too nervous. The no nonsense attitude of the RS makes it a blast to drive more so than the MR. It felt lighter, it communicates with me as if I had a hard wired plug from my brain to the car's ECU.
The beautiful trashing noise that was coming from the turbo and the engine is to die for. Noise is magnified and it is not a bad thing since you really get a sense of what's going on overall. The turbo noise is louder and the rush is more apparant. I found the the engine builds rev a lot quicker and thus made me feel that the RS is faster than the MR <-- of course this is only seat of the pants reaction. The RS felt extremly light especially in the twisties where I test drove it. Not once did I have to get on the brakes and the car was very stable and extremly firm. In a road course or autocross course, I'm sure that the RS will do better than the MR.

"Would u trade an 05 MR for an 06 RS?"

The where...Portland Intl Raceway. And I never did say the RS was faster, I said it handled better. We never put a stopwatch to them. I'd like to be able to go back, and do a back to back test and time them all. There were 4 of us instructors from the race school and a bunch of journalists from all the mags driving the cars over a three day time period. Us instructors could get in and out of the cars all we wanted and would do so for hours on end untill the journo's would show up. There was myself, the owner of the race school, the chief instructor, and another instructor that aside from several SCCA road racing national championships, currently holds the outright speed record for the Silver State Classic.
Anyway, all of us initially thought the MR would be the better/faster car given the closer ratio gearing, suspension ect. However, after driving the RS, ALL of us felt It was the better track car. At times we were fighting to see who would get to drive it. It was just so noticeable as to how much lighter it was, and how the weight difference plays into the over all handling. It was MUCH more nimble. Any throttle or brake input made a much larger difference in the balance of the car with regard to weight transfer. We could brake later and take the corners a bit faster because of the lighter weight. It would be interesting to compare them back to back on a track like Road America, where hp and aero wold make a bigger difference. I could see the MR having a bit of an advantage because of better aero packaging, being able to hit a higher top speed.
The Mitsu engineers from japan were suprized that we liked the RS better than the MR for much the same reasons most people think of.
A side note with regards to suspension... the RS and the GSR have the same suspension settings. the RS felt great the GSR did not. The only real difference is the weight and center of gravity.

"Living life owning an EVO RS, what's it like?"
CrimsonShadow:
My RS has a completely stripped trunk, no stereo and full exhaust. i don't miss any of the "goodies". Hell, on most vehicles i've ever had that crap usually breaks first anyway. To me, this car is a substitute for the motorcycle i once had. There is a zen in driving a car with no distractions, monitoring the guages, hearing the road debris clinking on the cars undercarriage, smelling the brakes and clutch when they are pushed too hard. To me it is what i have been wishing for years to have. There is also the stealth aspect that is so fun it hurts my face sometimes. As long as i'm not on throttle i am invisible to cops. Just another white Lancer.
There are some things to note like the fact that without the wing the rear can hang out pretty far if you aren't used to it on the higher speed corners. Also, i grew up in Michigan and never felt the need to for ABS and now that i live in the desert i feel the need even less so i don't miss the ABS. Many of these kiddies here though may have grown up with it and may not understand that you can't be lazy with normal brakes. Other than the fact i wish there was an intercooler sprayer on the RS and the stock wheels are pretty heavy i couldn't ask for more.

I have a 9 rs and I have to say it is wonderful.. I will say I would not recommend it for everyone.. It is loud and has no creature comforts.. But that is what I like the best about it.. Its like jumping into a race car everyday of my life.. If you enjoy comfort at all dont buy this car.. I on the other hand wouldnt dream of owning anything else.. The RS is the ultimate EVO.. IMO

Perfect arguments don't exist, IMO. Someone can always counter a view point with their conflicting opinions. I'm glad I'm in a world with much variety. Keeps things interesting. Thanks for your opinion, sincerely.

OMG this is CLASSIC ricer mentality. ok don't get your panties in a bunch, i'm not calling you a ricer, but this is one of the classic things they say. don't get abs to have full control of the brakes. c'mon, do you honestly think you can brake better without ABS? no human on earth can beat ABS EVERY time. yes some very talented people with a lot of experience and PRACTICE can threshold brake and "beat" ABS in overall braking distance here and there BUT they will NEVER do it 100% of the time and in what conditions? snow? ice? oil slick highway? care to bet your life on your threshold braking ability? how about the life of someone else?
this goes into the same category as carbon fiber this or that to save 15 grams of weight. friggin ridiculous wannabe racer crap that is impractical and "hardcore' for the sake of being hardcore, not for the sake of winning an actual competition...
i applaud mitsubishi for offering the RS as a regular production trim not just a limited run for homologation. but i laugh at people who don't legitimately race these things. instead they say that they CAN race it and that it WOULD do better than a well equipped, heavier car. WHOOP DEE FRIGGIN DO!!!!!!
these people are using the car to buy groceries and to go to work. no full opposite lock drifts over gravel and dirt there...
last piece of venting is that the S-AWC car will ALWAYS handle BETTER than the non S-AWC car. ALWAYS! fun is in the eye of the beholder. if you like being slower, like drifting, then more power to you. but don't say something like drifting is more fun than grip. that would be an individual's opinion. but grip faster than drift? scientific fact.

+100000000000000000
And good luck to the guy that can beat ABS lol
I was trying to say what you said but couldn't have said it any better to that guy
Pointless car for the streets if you don't track it and strip it further
He is still trying to point out that with SAWC and AYC crap it would take away from the car because its not as driver oriented (Evo X S-AWC) then his HARDCORE RS.. Please all the other evo's besides the US ones had AYC for awhile now

You know whats funny? We finnally get an EVO that isn't hosed and is fully loaded with S-AWC and etc, and yet people cry. People cry when we don't have **** and people cry when we get things. I remember threads about 2 years ago hoping that the 9 would get AYC or if we would get AYC ever, we did get ACD but i remember people hoping for AYC. When we finnally get it we have some people saying it might take away from the car now..... people are never satisfied
