I'm sure there were 1st gen. Supra guys sitting around back in '93 *****ing about this weird looking new car with its 2JZ motor and look what happened with that. I bet some old 5.0 mustang guys were up in arms when the modular 4.6 came out and that seems to be working out pretty well for them.

All we can do at this point is wait and see. I'm pretty confident that mitsubishi has done their homework and we will be getting one bad *** new motor. Just have to wait for the aftermarket to build up. I'm looking for around 375-400 whp so I really hope the new drivetrain will be able to handle that.
Well...I am giving an outsider view on this...I actually came from a 5.0 club myself...to me the fox body 5.0 was the best mustang built...to this day its a car people respect...I remember when in 94 they came out with the new bodystyle but kept the same engine...people absolutely hated it...in 96 ford released the 4.6...with the current body style...and guess what...the people hated that too...in 99 is where people saw a change with an updated 4.6 and better styling...

Just because a car is newere it does not make the car more desirable...yeah offcourse the technololgy especially in the import cars is going to be better...but that doesn't mean the looks are...just take a look at the new Subie WRX and the STi (when its released)....there are certain cars that make you like them the first time you set your eyes on them...the X is unfortunately not one of those cars...the motor might be better out of the box...it may handle better stock...but so what...the 8/9 have the aftermarket to keep up and exceed...and the styling of the 8/9 IMO is better then the X...

I've yet to hear any professional in the automotive industry, certainly any that have a styling bent, who has not said the EVO X is much better, and less cheap, looking.

And damn am I ever tired of hearing people whine about the loss of the antique engine. There's nothing wrong with aluminum block engines. The old 4G63 had to go eventually. If you thought it would last forever, you don't know much about the automotive industry.
I will tell you what...I just recently purchased an eVo iX...to me it had to have been the SSL package...I agree I don't get why people would get anything but that in that car...without the leather...the car is cheap plastic econobox grocery getter...again...with a turbo...I am new to the whole eVo community...but for some reason the 8/9 caught my eye more over the new WRX the 06-07 STi's although I have considered the 04-05 STi's best years IMO...and or the future release of the X...

If you think leather "makes" the Evo you are a little off base. Besides car with leather still get the crappy plastic fantastic interior just, leather instead of fabric on the seats and doors.

I am not hardcore eVo as mentioned before...I am hardcore 5.0...and to me yes the leather makes the interior of the eVo...if I didn't get the SSL package I would have went with the 04-05 STi...since that interior is so much better than the plasticy cloth of the regular eVo's...The leather makes the car feel...I guess rich inside...its stupid...but it just appeals to me more...the X will appeal to more people and women...hence both Subie and Mitsu made their next models...well what they appear to be now...all they care about is sales...not so much the enthusiasts anymore...

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I guess I'm an oddball because I like the appearance of the EVO 7,8, and 9 (all basically the same). I don't feel like I settled for my car due it's performance. I don't see how you can spend $30K and go out in your driveway look at your car and think "...well at least it's fast".

Regarding the EVO X I think the interior is much better, but for those that think the exterior styling moves it up-market don't kid yourselves. As long as there is a $14K-$18K car that looks pretty damn close to it, it doesn't matter. The masses will always lump the models together.

Finally, passing judgment about the styling (for or against) so strenuously without seeing it in person is crazy to me. I reserve my final opinion until I see it with my own eyes.

Exactly...I don't think any of us who purchased the iX did...to me that is what caught my eye...even though I knew the X would be coming out...I do have to admit though...I don't like the 8/9 interior unless its the SSL package...its too plasticy...to plain...but this is coming from a person that buys things for looks...I am not hardcore eVo like most of you here...at least not yet...but every time I drive the car I like it more...when I purchsed the car it was on the basis of a daily driver...4 banger turbo...and AWD...I wanted a richer look hence the SSL package...I have two mustangs 5.0 that will own my evo anyday...while my iX is stock...its nice to know that with minimal mods my 5.0's will have a good race against my eVo...to each his own...I just hate the fact that the new lancer will look so close to the eVo X...but they are making those cars to increase sales as it will appeal to the general population...

Why does everyone say it looks so close to the lancer, when the current Evo doesn't? They both have a more aggressive body kit, fender flares, big wing, nicer wheels, brakes and are lowered a bit. I think eveyone is tuned in to the differences of a current Evo compared to the old lancer so they notice the differences more. As the above pictures show, they are obviously closely related cars and the look is very similar, just updated.

IMO the 07 Lancer and the X are quite a bit closer in appearance than the previous Lancers to the 8 & 9. The headlights on the 07 and the X look exactly alike.

This is an Evo board. We should all be wondering about how the F/R weight distribution and CG of the new X compares to the IX. We should care about curb weight, what the moment of inertia about the CG is, suspension travel, etc....

Arguing about the aesthetics of the car to me is completely immaterial. If the aero is good, then the X looks fine.

If that's all EVO owners were worried about they would be driving Miatas.

With all due respect, your pictures help to point out exactly what I am saying. The pictures you posted of the IX are just aesthetically more pleasing. The background, lighting, and resolution really bring out the red color in the IX. The same can't be said of the photo quality of the EVO X with it's extremely boring background and poor resolution. Swicth the EVO X to where the IX is and vice versa and I guarrantee you the X would look much better. This helps to prove my point that we just really haven't had an opportunity to see the EVO X in a flattering lay out or in person and I believe this has helped to lit the flames of the EVO X haters. In my opinion the IX is very good looking car, but I admit it's styling is not universally appealing, do I think the X will be universally appealing, not entirely, but more so then the IX or VIII.

Hey, no disrespect here. I wasn't responding to you specifically. But more so to everyone getting all up in arms about something they haven't laid eyes on. And also to all those that are downing the looks of the current and past EVOs.

And regarding the pics regardless of the background the X looks better in the 3/4 shot and the IX looks better in the side shot. It's all personal preference, you know opinion, and we all know what opinions are like.
