Steering response = too many factors
If the steering ratio is half way between that in IX and that in your beloved
corolla, the C&D and edmunds would not come out with such review.
Think about it. The ratio on X a lot closer to corolla than an Evo needs to be.
Reality is tough, but we need to face it.
There is a big gap of what we want it to be and what it is.
The gap is so big, it's just a car with Evolution on it's rear, but definitely not an Evo.
The Evo is dead. Long live the Evo!

my friend. We are all Evo fans. I can understand. Peace.

Vigo,
I wouldnt dignify that with a response man.
It seems that some people are looking for anything to put the X down.
It's quite obvious, now.
If Mitsubishi says it's an Evo, then that's what it is.
No one in this forum can say otherwise. If they do.
Well...who are they? No one.
I know that the public has a strong say-so in what is to come in future models, but even so, they will take educated comments and suggestions over the comments that are just stupidiculous.
I read those 2 reviews and they are not all un-biased.
What is interesting, is the title of the C&D article, i believe that is the right one where they speak of the X being slow but faster.
And the said we might shed a tear on the IX but from watching it from the rearview mirrow.
And the Edmunds review is still praising as well as bashing it.
They know that there is no such thing as the perfect car. For everyone, it differs.
We all know how great the IX is.
It still is.
I will not argue that point.
But it's funny how people are quick to bash a car on 1-2 reviews on a car that is not in production yet.
And I am sure even if the car proves that it is faster and better, that's an IF, folks; I believe that the same guys will continue to bash it.
I personally am no longer caring anymore.
When I first came to this forum, I came across so many individuals who are very knowledgeable on these cars. And of course you are going to have the individuals that just need to say something.
I would love to get the X.
I am diggin it %100 and I did drive the predecessors for fun.
They are all great cars.
I drove the previous lancers, they aight.
The new GTS feels so much better. WITH the added weight. It feels strong, DURABLE (lol, remember that BS?) even a safer feeling.
I feel for the all the EVO owners. I feel why they are bashing it.
But I personally don't give a s**t.
F**k em.
They ain't payin my C-Note.

Wow i guess the steering isnt what it was. It is sad but all this o it will make anyone look good ummmm who cares.....i feel the faster in the corner you can go the better. I mean doesnt the skyline and other cars use Tech. to get faster in the turns. Um all those Eur. Evos with YAW seem to have no problems with what they got.
For a car that is surpose to be a sports compact i think they are doing more then they have to really. Once again straight line isnt everything.
Most cars have gone threw this including cars like the M3.
Plus lets wait for the RS it might just be the raw car the Evo Community needs.

I am glad to see a evo 9 owner that is growing up with the evo.
Mitsubishi said months ago that the steering wasn't going to be as "sharp" as the outgoing model. They didn't give mechanical reasons as to why but it's probably down to the ratio and the way the rack is actually mounted in the car. I have to admit, when I first bought my Evo, I thought the steering was a bit much for a daily driver. Best steering response I'd ever felt but be damned if you look over your shoulder while moving down the road! Isn't much of an issue for me now, I've adjusted nicely :-) I suspect many first drives will be disappointments for those with the previous generation. Give it a few weeks and it'll go away.
so who's gonna be the 1st to make a custom steering rack eh?
well after reading the R&T article where they specifically state the steering was slowed, i guess the only hope is either the RS is hardcore or that they hear the cry of the enthusiast and bring back the sharp steering in later years.
the S2000 is a good example. they slowed the steering in the current gen S2000 but they brought back the razor sharp steering ratio albeit only in the new CR version. there's hope i guess...

Two factors contribute to the Evo X's slightly slower steering:
First, the Evo X's steering ratio is a hair slower.
Second, the Evo X's steering wheel is larger in diameter than Evo IX's. This doesn't change the ratio, but it does increase the physical distance you need to move the wheel rim to achieve the same wheel angle. So it is "effectively" slower, even if the steering ratio was the same (which it isn't--see #1).
