Remeber with these replies that most people on here own an Evo VIII or IX, so they are going to tell you to do the same. It is just human nature. I am in the same boat as you, I was anxiously waiting for the X. I say go with the X, the ride is better, handling is better and straight line performance is damn close. For the IX Mitsu had years to learn how far they could turn up the boost. I bet the X is running lower boost and is only a boost controller away from making another 20 hp, at least. Not to mention the interior is much upgraded and the car looks much nicer and higher class.

Also, it was noted in one of the reviews that hey made a lot of changes to the engine to turbo it, the one that really caught my eye is semi-closed engine deck that is awesome! We don't have to worry about the cylinders moving and of course the cylinders are sleeved with iron.

This new motor is literally making me loose sleep.

Why are you so worried about the motor? Hell, any good 4 banger with a turbo on it can make 400+hp without going too crazy.

Aluminum, due to its higher thermal conductivity, disipates heat much better; Iron will hold heat long after aluminum has cooled. This is why high capacity radiators and intercoolers are constructed of aluminum, it works are a great heat exchanger that is easily cooled. Its also why most heat sinks on electronics are made of aluminum.

What aluminum fails in is fatigue when heated compared to cast Iron, as well as yield and ultimate stress levels. Aluminum's larger coefficient of thermal expansion also creates some unique design challenges.

There are very few reasons a well designed aluminum block cannot hold large amounts of boost and hp, although its threshold will be less than that of cast iron (how many actually have 1000hp evos anyhow? )

Thanks Tristar. I stand corrected.
