Would U be an Idi*t to buy a X?
Would U be an Idi*t to buy a X?
Would it be a stu*id move to buy a X first year. I'm sure we all remember the mark ups on the 03 $10k +, the same might happen.
and what are you paying extra for:
-first year guniea pig (since they have kinks to work out) then you go to the dealer have them fix your problem somewhat, they inturn report to mitsu, then its fixed for the next model year
-less extras. i.e. the 05 VIII had more than the 03/04 then the IX came out with mivec
-slower steering on the X and slightly slower speed wise. These are things that might be updated on the next model years (I mean they need to improve somewhere, why not give the first X great handling and then make the steering better and bump horsepower to compete with the STI(which it WILL have to))
the smart thing to do is wait till the 09 evo X with less probs and prob better steering and higher hp.
or the alternative is the "I cant wait till later, I need the attentionand need to pay the mark up now and have more problems (on a complex car)" mentality
Just trying to help people not make the same mistake as on the 03 VIII like some freinds of mine. Thankfully I couldnt afford one till 05 then traded for a IX
anyways it will take the aftermarket atleast 5 years to get even near what they are now for the current evo, unless you want to modify the floor mats which are readily available.
I have no problem with change or evolution, just dont get sucked up in the emotion and do your purchases wisely.
I no longer have my IX (da&m expensive, but I loved it) but I do consider it to be the ultimate iteration of the 4g63, something the 4b11 wont be able to say till its final year.
PS: why degrade the steering feel, dont most companies strive for excellent steering ie bmw mercedes amg etc. Mitsu had it and ANYONE who wants an evo wants it whether rich poor young or old. FIX IT MITSU before subaru beats you, because we all know that no one remembers second place

Not sure if you've driven many Merc.'s but overall their steering feel is just OK. They were still using a worm gear system (instead of the more advance rack and pinion) right up to the late 90's! Talk about vague steering.
BMW went through a period a few years ago when they adopted electric assist (active steering they call it) on their 3 series to help during low speed maneuvers, to the detriment of high speed feel. They've since dropped this system (it's now an option with Idrive) due to all the complaint's they received.
The STi has never had the steering feel the Evo has (although it is better for around town driving) so even if the X's steering is a smidge less aggressive (to better aid high speed stability), I'm willing to bet it's still better then any of the above cars mentioned above.

It's a first year car with a new engine, new transmission and drivetrain put out by a company notorious for denying warranty work with little to no modifications done to the car.

I think the open diff is US-specific. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. That would make it the first model run. I had an 03, broke the pos like 982394 times.
I wouldn't think so. But I did get a Eclipse GSX back in 1995 (first year of a redesign). And boy was that a disaster. The sunroof broke in the first week (it was August!). After some b****ing to the dealer, he promised to take it off of another car if they didn't get the replacement part within a week. One week later they were out there in the lot, taking the part off of a brand new car (sales manager wasn't happy:-). That would never happen today because of loaner cars. Oh yeah, Parts of the interior were falling off within a week. I'd go to vacuum the car and find loose screws in the carpet. And the interior rattled horribly from day one. I was glad when I totaled it 15 months later.
I'm sure that Mitsubishi has fixed all that, I mean its been 12 years. But I think I'll wait and read some owner stories first, before I purchase the first year of a model that has just been redesigned.

firstly, i do understand what you are saying about the first generation of any product being less than perfect and attracting a premium. however, if no one buys it then these bugs will never get ironed out anyway and the product may get deleted altogether. fact is, there are people who want to experience something brand new and first of the ranks and i say good on them, someone has to start it.
