Evo X took a step back!
Maybe its slower cuz of the dual exhaust and two cats it has now?
Or maybe stricter Smog laws made Mitsubishi go with a new engine and its probably gonna take mitsubishi a couple of years to develop the new engine
remember...Mitsubishi had 10 years to develop the 4g63 to what it is today!
The new 4b11 hopefully wont take as long.

i don't think the evo was built to go fast on straightaways anyway...thus it being a rally car from its history. enough said. you guys that complain about it being slow on the 0-60 shoulda bought you a freakin' v8 muscle car. only the kids here in the u.s. are so obsessed with going fast on straights...everyone else around us actually like to enjoy "driving".
that's just my opinion though...i still love my evo viii.

I bet you do more straight line driving than going off road or into the twisties...where is the nearest track besides a 1/4 track from you? For me its in another state...offcourse most of us are upset about the X being slower in a straight line...A lot of times that's how its determined that one car is faster than the other thanks to 1/4 times...I'm not gonna be an a$$hole and take Tokyo Drift kinda turns here in the city just so I can enjoy the engineering behind the X...or going 130 MPH in a 30MPH on ramp exit to feel the grip of the new chasis...around here that's the most turns I will see...and to me straight line accelaration is important...maybe because I also own two 5.0's...hmm...oh well I hope you get the point though
but you do have a point.

), it offers a lot for the price. I guess that is the difference between evo 9 owners and the general market
Bottom line:
This is good for everyone. The Evo 8 and 9 were incredibly pure and raw driving experiences, but I think Mitsubishi pretty much sold one to everyone in the US looking for that kind of car. I don't think they could have made the X even more raw without seriously limiting its appeal to new buyers. By making the X more refined and easier to live with, while making it faster where it counts, Mitsubishi gets to sell more Evos and possibly even save their company. People who want the more raw experience of the older car can buy used Evo 8's and 9's. So in this case I don't think the launch of the X will destroy the resale values of our current cars, especially since most of us have 5 year warranties.
Also, it's important to know that with the TC-SST, the 0-60 in 5.0 seconds can happen all day with a chimp behind a wheel. In an IX MR, only a very skilled driver can hit those times, and not without putting some stress on the clutch. So all around, I think the X is a faster car.
It's a lot like the Porsche 993 vs the 996. The 993 is slower in every way yet is more desirable than the 996 because it's more fun to drive. Not everyone races around a track to get the best time, so I think that it's good to see the car evolve.
Ultimately, with M3's becoming bloated V8's that weigh almost 2 tons, Mitsu is going to steal a ton of 335i and M3 owners with their Evo, and take quite a few of those cars in as trade ins. This is great for mitsu and great for us, as I guarantee our resale values will be crap if the dealer network collapses.
Finally, I'm getting older. As my wife and I contemplate starting a family, a car with a clutchless transmission, side and curtain airbags, and a safer overall structure starts to look better and better.

Hey the 0-60 in 5.0 was from the 5-spd.(read the article yeterday in chicago airport) They didn't have a chance to test the TC-SST. So it is still very possible that the MR will put out better numbers for those of you who are obsessed on that thing.
Personally, I don't like the idea of the new engine initially. Until you realize it puts out more power than subaru's "new" engine(few years old now) with a half liter less displacement.
Finally, I am looking forward to what the boys at Buschur and AMS can do. That will be the deciding factor....

I don't plan on getting a X right now. However after a year I might get one(or a 135i) and retire the 8 to a weekend/track car. I think the X would be a nice daily driver, not that I don't love to drive my car everywhere.
i don't know about the x, but the weight has got to be more.
I drove the new lancer and OMFG!!!! I swear I was lookin for barney and fred's feet to be peddling that boat underneath the car.

IX ran a 13.0
X ran a 13.8
IX ran a 4.5 0-60
x ran a 5.0 0-60
But wait the x goes around a corner a hair faster
Who cares! Yeah the people that Mitsu is try to attract could give a damn if the thing goes around a corner fast. The IX did just fine going around a corner and, it was fast!!
