Not good news on mitsu future
the only thing that's worse than warranty is bad product, like a Kia or something
the warranty issues may be related to a shortage of dealerships in general, but who else makes an EVO? there's the Nissan Gittr but it's way more $$, maybe unfortunately a warr beauty mark goes with the EVO territory.
the shortage of techs issue might be the same as the Mitsu dealer issue where Mitsu can't find anyone that wants a Mitsu dealership. So they can't be picky about who they accept. Then invariably, at least when your starting up, everyone hired has to learn the product because they've come from another brand.

Of course it is. But a lot of people get twisted when they're told up front that it might not be covered under warranty, and if it isn't, they'll owe for the diagnosis. A lot of people can't get past this and throw a fit right off the top. All they want to hear is "Its free and your car will be fixed lickety split and we're sorry that something happened, it's all our fault."
Hmm, short but interesting article.

funny how the pic accompanying the article is for a car (early 2nd gen Eclipse) they haven't sold for 12 years...

Mitsubishi, of course, is not a high-line brand. They sell cars priced from ~$15k to $35k. Pretty small price range and absolutely no luxury products at all (since the Diamante and Montero LTD went out of production). They could do a lot better in terms of structured requirements for dealership service, but it's a fairly small automotive operation under the umbrella of an industrial giant.. and I'm not sure if it's a huge priority.

EVO owners are probably some of the goofiest.. I've seen cars caked in mud with bashed-up underbodies come in demanding warranty repairs. Sorry, but off-roading your EVO kind of counts as negligent use
Uhh...all the people complaining about price of an EVO X and, wouldnt it be sweet if the X was 28-30k? You can buy a brand new one for 30k. A dealer near me has 3 and I went in there with my girl when she bought her Lancer ES Sport, she mentioned I am looking at getting an evo.
Salesman: "I have 3, they are all red, If I could get you into one for 30k would you pull the trigger?"
Me: "Seriously, 30?"
Saleman: "Yeah, we get people coming in here all the time who just want to drive one. Its not worth our time to entertain all these clowns. We want them out of here."
Me: "Well, maybe in 3-4 months. I'll be back."
So yeah, you can get the Evo X for 30k. If you want the dealer contact info PM.

I just got my recent edition of MOTOR TREND. Dark days for cars are nearing.
Motortrend has this update about MITSU.
"Mitsubishi, struggling to retain six digit annual sales here, is essentially a tax writeoff for Mitsu UFJ, one of Japan's largest banks. If and when the tax writeoff becomes marginal, Mitsu will pull out of the US market-perhaps out of the car business"
The news is not better for Subie. Having lost its connection with GM, Toyota will now help keep it viable, which means, potentially, future Subie models powered with something other than horizontally opposed engines. The joint venture with Toyota on the sport coupe is on hold, however.

There are several in the DC Metro area that are closing there doors. The nature of attrition. Bottom line only the dealers with a strong Pre-Owned presence will survive all this. The margin in new cars just doesn't pay the bills. As crazy as it seems, there are still new mitsu points opening, even in these trying times.
agreed, all the car makes should lean out.... just like the buyers.
Can anyone give sources regarding the mitsu financial woes? I hope also they stick it out
not to be off subject by can someone chime in on how BMW reduced technician warranty pay by 20%, and reduced labor operation times, whilst introducing multiple new models and engines EVERY Year?
i see this is applicable because BMW cuts technician pay due to financial woes, but fattens the product line
SORRY for venting.

wow, I read through all 19 pages of this thread. Took me about 3 days, off and on, but I did it
A few pages back, people were debating the quality of different brands vs Mitsu. I have a data point here: My Evo IX MR has 67K miles on it, and it burns about 1/8 quart of oil every 2500 miles (my oil change interval). It never goes down enough that I have to add oil between changes. Anyone else have this experience? I think the IX burns less oil because of its double ring design, but I don't know how the VIII's do. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of my MR. I will probably keep it forever. Just got tuned at English Racing too.
