Not good news on mitsu future
I agree Jve. I bought my 3rd gen in Nov 99 and thought it was the best looking car Mitsu had realeased (flame away if you must guys). At that time I didn't know jack **** about the "tuner" world. Hind sight being 20/20 I should have snatched up one of the last 2 GSX's on that dealers lot but again when I bought that car I had no idea I would ever get into the world of creating "mad power". I sure a **** tried to build that 3g (after seing the original FF, again flame away if you must). Dropped a RIPP supercharger under the hood, full engine build and meth. I was quite pleased with my efforts when she dropped into 12's on the 1/4 mile strip in 03...until something called an EVO blew by me at the strip like I was standing still. Ended up dumping that car for a C5 vette late 04 but in all honesty I got tired of the vette quickly. She was quick but it felt like driving a boat on dry land. I decided it was time to take another spin at the so called "tuner car". Minium qualifications were to be AWD with a solid power plant...and I didn't want to inherit someone else's work (i.e. problem child/have no clue what some "ricer" has ****ed up in this car). That left me with 3 honest options rolling into 08, STI, EVO or GTR. Frankly I just didn't like the STI it looked awful (opinion), the GTR would have rocked but local mark up on the car was 40k over MSRP and there was a 1 year waiting list at that price (can we say hell no). Then I saw the new EVO and fell in love. I quickly learned Mitsu had decided to go with the new 4b11t to replace the tried and true 4g63 (and was disappointed initially), but the x just looked so much better than the ix I said **** it. Now I'm on the verge of owning the most powerful evo x in the country if not the world (will be happy to post dyno results as soon as I return to states from Iraq). Presently the block is being honed to accomidate the JUN 2.3 stroker, the tranny and driveline are being built by shep racing, heads have been fully ported and polished, turbo has been significantly upgraded as well as have all parts for cooling, breathing, and fuel delivery...oh yeah and standalone computer (AEM) managing the entire set up. None of this has anything to do with the evo being iconic, it doesn't matter that Mitsu may or may not abandon the US market....who cares. We buy the car's we like/can afford and turn it into what we desire.
Is the EVO iconic...maybe (not likely) do I care...nope
Was my vette iconic...in the US...probably
Is my 67 Firebird iconic....hell ****ing yeah it is (but she only comes out on the weekend)
Is the a skyline iconic...it is in my book...but if you don't play video games and don't watch cheesy FF movies (Of course I do) you probably don't know what the hell a skyline is.
Is mitsu going out of business. Not likely
OK...rant over...across the nation around the world everybody have fun tonight.
I get a lot of attention from musclecar guys on the street...people that are into performance cars know it immediately. I have had more than one Mustang pull alongside and check it out.
The past 3-weeks, two SoCal Mitsu dealerships have closed...Norco and San Bernardino Mitsu. So, will Saturn dealerships start working on our Mitsu for warranty claim? Currently, I have to drive 20-miles to visit a dealership and 50+ miles for a reputable one.
i was at rodondo beach today and drove passed a what use to be Mitsubishi dealership now turning into a furniture store
w0ot! looks like a leak [transfer case or differential].
I called Riverside Mitsu, I have to leave the car the whole day just to take a look at it. Victorville Mitsu, tech is injured and wont come back after a week or so.
Now, I have to drive 60miles to SC Mitsu on Friday morning. My commute will be like 2-hrs in f'n traffic
Starting to regret my X purchase

Agreed. But I wouldnt have to drive 60-miles each way to get a warranty work with Honda and/or Toyota.
I'm just hoping I wouldnt have to claim warranty work every now and then... *knock on wood*
The Mitsu dealer nearest me closed about 18 months ago. So I went with dealer 2....about 30 minutes away. I took my car in for the cracked fuel pipe and the place was like a ghost town....uh-oh. Usually every bay is full. On that day maybe 6-7 bays out of 20 were full. They only had about 20-30 MITSU's on the entire lot. I know sales are slow and all, but now I am worried about going option 3....which is at least 40-45 minutes away, after that I am over an hour. I hope this is not a bad sign!!
