Because the Outlander is not that big a vehicle and they are going for best gas mileage, not highest horsepower. It competes mainly against the Honda CR-V (which has a 2.4L I4) as its only option. The other key competitors like the RAV-4 have a very low take rate for their V6 and most reviews I've read for it say the engine is too much for its chassis. You will see CAFE start to take its toll on a lot of manufacturers engine options. Mitsubishi is not going to waste time developing a 270+hp V6 when their market strategy does not call for it.
if they had made slight improvements year after year, the outlander would have been a huge success, but they didnt and still dont so nobody talks about it...
There have been improvements made on the Outlander but if you are predisposed to dislike the vehicle and make unfair comparisons against it, you wouldn't notice.
the outlander sport on paper is an awesome little crossover. the juke which is small as heck, with very polarizing looks has managed to steal all the thunder with its peppy turbo engine. where is the turbo outlander sport mitsu? THAT'S the crossover that gets people talking....
Getting kudos on internet forums and selling cars to people are two different things. One puts money in the bank and one doesn't.

the last place mitsubishi should be at is honda or even think about following them. Honda will be in the same problem GM is right now in 10 years. they've gone away from why they got so popular, small, cheap, reliable and great on gas. theyre no longer cheap, small or that great on gas. you are right about the galant and eclipses sucking though lol, they need to be like hyundai and ***** the 4B11T into everything lol, so far they've stuffed it in a genesis coupe, sonata, and a kia sportage! mitsu could learn a few things there

No one knows the future and trying to create a connection between Honda and Mitsubishi is definitely a stretch. By almost every standard, Mitsubishi would be in a far better position if it emulated Honda. I'm not applying that thought to the Evo--just a generalization about what we might consider a success for a car manufacturer.
