Mitsubishi said a few months ago that they'd be going in the direction of their PX-MiEV II Hybrid vehicle as the new face of the company... meaning the fighter-jet nose we currently know and love will be no more...
Here's the result out of that PX-MiEV II concept, now known as the 2013 Outlander:

Get use to this, cause this is what Mitsu wants their new cars to look like
I'm not dissing it... I think the crossover looks alright like this... I just think an "Evo" with this nose is just "Bleh" and "Meh"

Mitsubishi is getting cues from Nissan... they've been working together for a while now and I'd be darned if Nissan didn't have anything to do with this new development. Just look at the thing... it looks 90% like a Nissan Murano. And the Murano sells many times over what the Sharp-looking Outlander sells.
If Mitsubishi is to stay in the business of making cars, they have to get some bland-looking cars out there so the bland people can buy them. I'm pretty sure once they're racking up the extra sales, we'll get the cars we want.
After all, aren't Nissan's cars all bland? One could say so... yet they're the ones in charge of building the 370z and the GT-R.
If Mitsu has 10 whatever-looking cars that sell a lot, that'll give them money for R&D on the two cars most people are still hoping to buy for years to come: The Evo and perhaps the rebirth of an AWD Eclipse.
