Confirmed by Mitsubishi high offical: Lancer Evolution is no more
I have not read through this entire thread, but could this just be a REALLY GREAT marketing scam by mitsu to make people go out and buy more Xs? Just a thought... Pretty cheap marketing campaign with one hell of a return...
They could definitely spin this in a good marketing ploy for them.
"We were going to stop production of EVO... but due to overwhelming public support we have decided to keep the EVO in production. We received hundreds of thousands of e-mails, phone calls, social networking messages (facebook). We have hundreds of thousands of people on our Facebook pages as well as petitions. After this we realized the EVO wasn't just a car... but a Religion. We realized we cannot stop the production of this vehicle.

Don't know if any has posted this but Mitsubishi's Lancer Evo is not dead after all

There's the statement from Tokyo: "Production of the current Lancer Evolution continues as planned. As for its successor, regulations and market feedback will dictate its engineering package and architecture.
MMC has kept the Lancer Evolution evolving itself as the most performing model in the global market. However, as the needs and demands change, MMC is considering not to keep the Lancer Evolution evolve in the way as before, but to find the different direction to evolve. The new direction and corresponding products will be disclosed in due course."

Go check out the forums for the DSMs, the FD RX-7, the Supra, the 3000GT, the 300ZX, the Grand National, and B series powered Civics and Integras if you are that worried.
I have not yet had an issue finding a part, neither stock nor aftermarket for my '98 4G63 powered Eclipse.

"Mitsubishi Evo X Update
Yesterday's announcement that the Mitsubishi Evo X might be the last one of its kind started a media frenzy. This made the Japanese manufacturer release a statement to clarify the matter. The X is going to be the last Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in this form, meaning with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Apparently, the Evolution franchise will continue to live, but a hybrid powertrain instead.
Mitsubishi Motor Corporation release a letter that says the Mitsubishi Evo name will continue to be in the company's line-up even after 2013, when the current version will go out of production. However, the company feels it has to adapt to changing market conditions, which will determine it head towards greener engine "

Historically they have done the opposite...waited for Subaru to break ground with the WRX here for 3-4 years before they saw the light and brought the EVO over here...this company has never lead, rather followed Subaru and it is unclear why they have not/did not follow them to the letter with their winning formula...if they had perhaps they would not be looking elsewhere to dig themselves out of a very deep hole.
What baffles me is how R they going to compete with Toyota and Honda with EV platforms?...these two companys have been at for years, again, before

^^^ also mitsubishi was in the rally waay before Subaru.. and just for a side note in this moment the WRC Mexico has 0 so ZERO subaru in the start grid, but they have Mitsubishi's alright
I mean, you named one car that came after a Subaru in one particular market and you call that historically? Do you have at least ONE more example of where a Subaru product came to market and a direct competitor from Mitsubishi followed? Mitsubishi has lead the world in balance shafts for inline-4s and GDI tech and now they want to get a good jump on EVs.
The MIEV series has been around for years. Seriously, look it up. Toyota does not have an production EV, they have a hybrid, practically a state sponsored one at that. Mitsubishi has years of development in full EVs, no gasoline engine at all.

Toyota EV vehicles have been out for a while.... if you have doubts watch a little documentary called "who killed the electric car"
See toyota and honda are pretty smart.. so is nissan... nissan is using toyota tech for their hybrids while selling them and making $$$ while also getting recognition for it in the process..
honda/toyota/bmw/ect are in the process of trying to perfect hydrogen powered fuel cell cars.. IMHO Hydrogen is going to ultimately be the FUTURE EV tech is fine and all but refueling time and maint costs are going to put many people off.. THis is good for companies trying to make a quick buck, esp when the only place to get replacement batteries is the parent company itself but in the long run i seriously don't see a great business case for a lineup of EV cars..
The volt (a glorified hybrid) was a good idea in theory but in real world tests has been proven not to only go between 19-40miles on charge.. not the 40 originally promised
Hyundai on the other hand has the idea down. Their sonata hybrid can travel up to 80mph on ev power alone and then run off engine power when the batteries are depleted..... and there are pictures bc this page was getting boring without them

I think about all the shops that specialize in evo's. Worked long and hard to make good names for themselves in the industry. What happens to their businesses and employee's. The amount of Evo's in the US are fairly limited. The next few years there will be attrition to those numbers do to many factors... The demand for parts, service, development and a variety of other related support items will dwindle. Shops that are not diverse will close, performance parts options will do the same. I also see the same happening to this forum. I hope this is a rumor with little merit.
I went to MOD east coast listened to the Mitsu rep praise the Evo and brand loyalists and told us the nextGen (mitsu marketing tag) has a lot to look forward to blah blah blah. I asked him what the future hold's for the evo . He smiled and said " it's going to be big" little did I know Big mean't death of a product many of us love
