Maybe Mitsu's drivetrain is more efficient than Subaru's, causing less power loss to the wheels.

Those dyno figures don't seem out of place for a even a stock 03 evo. My evo dynoed at 234 whp stock on a DynoJet.

You can't directly compare performance numbers for cars if they are tested at different places and times... which is exactly why they compared the '05 STi and MR at the same place and time. Otherwise any direct comparison would not be valid.

I'm happy with my RS...

I'd be more interested in an STI vs. MR each wired with an Exede or Utec to see what they can do maxed out everything else stock... There seems to be too much variance in the factory tuning, and it's too easy fro them to ship MT a hot evo, although this one appears kind of weak givent he supposed improvements

Thinking about the dyno numbers, and the difference... it makes sense. (making more HP on the same dyno, same day as a "300hp" STi)

The Evo is rated at 276hp, which is 280ps. (the agreed-upon limit for Japanese domestic vehicles)

The Skyline R34 is also rated at 276hp (280ps) and we all know that is crap too.

You'd hope they could get more than 5hp with a larger turbo and cams for the '05s...

(edit: of course, there is also the huge car-to-car variance that we've seen with the '03s and such...)

That's what all the earlier spec sheets for the MR said, although there is no mention of that in the US press releases. I guess we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

I'd be suprised if they did...I think the 02 housing is it. They should have done something to significantly differentiate the MR powerwise from the standard Evo.

It's not the O2 housing they changed, it was the turbine housing. Yea, nothing different powerwise between the MR and regular '05. Kinda lame.

this is the US we don't care abotu jap spec limits and mitsu is in no possition to underrate hp figures... they need to sell more cars and stock jerking around with the prices.

The reason I asked about the salom is motor trend did the last test and this one... wouldn't they use their own testing grounds?... which would be the same one the only difference would be that the temps would be slightly higher because its later in the season then the evo VIII was tested in

Believe it or not, magazines do not always test at the same place, and even when they do the surface conditions can vary considerably. (dusty, etc..)
