Furthermore, $15,000 in 1985 does not equal $15,000 today. Today that car would be hovering around $30,000. 20 years of inflation will do that.

Evolutions are not drag cars. They really, really aren't. If you want a drag car, although the Evolution could do the job, it's expensive and you're much better off searching for an old T-Type or Grand National, a 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra, Firebird Trans-Am, etc. The Evolution will not do it as cost effective as those cars.

The Evolution's first priority is handling, second would be handling, and third would be handling. Acceleration and braking round it out, and just serve to complement handling to round out the package.
I was comparing the Buick to the Stang or SS. The reason I mentioned price was bang for buck....and I'm well aware of the inflation rate.

keep up the good work and snap us a pic of those raised whites on that t-type so we can all envy you.
Thanks for pointing that out...I'll bet you've never made a typo. Nothing to envy...my point is bang for buck. The MR is $7,000 to $8,000 more than the RS...I'm just not sure it's worth it?!?!?

To be honest, I expected ALOT more from the MR. It's limited production (1000), and loaded with many more features than an evo 8, and barely manages to hold off a regular stock STi, that's over $2,000 less! In the end, it didn't even seem to get much praise for being overall a better built, easy to drive fast, package.
Keep in mind how when the first Sti and evo were tested, those ringer evo's given to magazines put up unrealistic numbers which have yet to be matched by current owners. For all we know, the actual production MR that gets into owners hands will also not match up to the testers numbers, while the production STi will be putting up faster times than tested, as it is now.
The mags need to test an evo 8 versus MR to see how they match up, and how far behind on evo 8 will be against a standard '05 STi. Then test an '05 vs. '04 Sti to see what difference the new steering and suspension pieces make. Other than that, the '04 STi's have the same engine and tranny. Current owners already know how much potential there is with little suspension tweeks, to match the '05, and the engine and tranny need no change.

now that i read it again, that may have been a little harsh. probably a result of way too many drinks just before posting. however, i still think the mr is worth it. for all of those who are comparing the mr and rs, make sure you've driven/riden in an rs before you are sure you want it. you'd be surprised how much difference that sound deadening material (or alck thereof) makes. the car i drove was loud and resonated quite a bit at any speed. not what i want in my daily driver.

I agree. My local dealer has the regular and RS on hand...maybe when the MR comes in I'll drive all three...BTW what does "alck" mean?
