Anyway, I'm sure it helps slightly, but the uprated BOV is for SURE not the main reason why the MR is a better car.

Wow, how fast 0-60 and 1/4 mile do you want? Sub 5 second 0-60 is very fast, for under $50,000 you may be waiting for a long time. These cars weren't made for street racing, the Evo beats the STI where it matters, in handling. Maybe you should look into a Camaro SS or Mustang Cobra, if you can afford it just get a Porche GT3. The Porche will give you .5 sec on the STI but for 3 times the price

I have an MotorTrend subscription and I don;t have mine yet... We usually get them a couple days early. Doesn't surprise me that the MR figures are almost identical... 5hp is nothing, one more cog, in most cases isn't much, lighter roof big deal, AYC well you would think this would help the slalom numbers but I don't see a diff. Yep I am happy with the regular old Evo VIII. Although if I was buying today all over again I guess I would get the MR anyway, but let's just see that sticker MSRP...
BTW, whoever had the magazine, what wads the MSRP listed for the MR and the STI, or were they estimated?

Prices are as follows:
STi: Base MSRP = $32,770; Price as tested = $33,698
MR: Base MSRP and Price as tested both estimated to be $34,900
Given that pretty much nobody pays over $32,000 for their STi's, the final negotiated sales prices for the MR will be very interesting.
BTW, the article appears in a special issue of Motor Trend (2005 & 2006 New Cars issue), *not* the October issue.

You're comparing an Evolution to a Buick Regal T-Type? The car could do only one thing well by today's standards -- straight-line acceleration. Additionally, the high 12's in the T-Type if I recalled pretty much required a flawless launch at sea level (stock).
Furthermore, $15,000 in 1985 does not equal $15,000 today. Today that car would be hovering around $30,000. 20 years of inflation will do that.
Evolutions are not drag cars. They really, really aren't. If you want a drag car, although the Evolution could do the job, it's expensive and you're much better off searching for an old T-Type or Grand National, a 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra, Firebird Trans-Am, etc. The Evolution will not do it as cost effective as those cars.
The Evolution's first priority is handling, second would be handling, and third would be handling. Acceleration and braking round it out, and just serve to complement handling to round out the package.
