Hmmm, the Vortex Generators work without the wing...

And 5yr/60k miles warranty...

I really hope it's not $35K as they quoted. Thats too rich for me .... now if was priced similar to the STi we're talking business .... $32K sounds about right for this car .... but what do I know ?

Thanks for your input.

evoneil - how was the steering feel of the Sti compared to the MR. i've driven an '04 sti and thought steering feel (lack of) was a weak spot. has it imporved for '05?

Evo neil..
I didn't expect the 200ft skidpad to be so different then the slalom g's but I guess they were... The MR generates less G's then the VIII's do so that would reflect in it's slalom speeds... again this could very well be do to track conditions... I was just in shock when I saw 1.11 g's lol

The new lotus makes around 1.02 g's without the sport package and runs up around the 74mph mark for slalom speeds... But those g's are on a skid pad not through the slalom...

I think we need an 05 gsr versus an 05 MR head to head now.
I mean.....if the MR just edges out the STI, where does that leave the 05 GSR?

I know what goodies the MR is getting over the 05 gsr........just wondering if it warrants the possibly extra $4k if all the numbers come out close (perf #'s of 05 gsr versus 05 mr).

I think the clutch rev limiter thing is going to frustrate people who not only drag race but also autocross the cars. 5k just isn't high enough to get a good launch in a 2L car.

I just don't see enough there to warrant the cost over the regular EVO or RS model. The six speed sounds nice but I don't think it's a necessity by any means.

I've driven an 05 STI and the biggest difference I could tell over the 04 is the new front LSD. Steering rack is the same ratio (15.0:1) but they changed to a solid mounting system to take away some of the play. In Japan this year for the first time, all STIs have a 13:1 rack, not just the RA Spec C version. I think you may see that appear on the STI next year.

Thanks for the post. Was a great article, those lap times at Streets are pretty quick for bone stock cars... I think I'll go pick up a copy after work.

you said it works without the wing. not true. it actually helps the wing do its job (create downforce) better.

Hrmmm does this 5k rev limiter only work from launch or is it whenever I am driving I cant stick the clutch in and rev it past 5k.....If so how would downshifting to a lower gear at say 6k rpm's work?

The STi has apparently been improved quite a bit. This is a good thing, as it'll only result in the continuation of this one-upmanship which only results in better products.

I'll have an MR, but I wouldn't mind having these well improved Evolution XI's around that can lap Willow in 1:30 flat.

I do wonder about the Lamborghini times. Granted, testing conditions, drivers, etc. are never the same, but a 1-second difference between the Gallardo and the MR seems awfully small. Makes you wonder if the drivers are less worried about cracking up these $30,000-ish sedans than an italian exotic that costs 5-6 times the price, and they aren't going for broke in the raging bull.

I've had seat time in a Gallardo as a passenger, and they are brutally quick and no slouch in the corners either.
