Update on Engine
Update on Engine
I was able to buy a used motor from Ebay for $2400 shipped. It only has 4K miles.
Now I can take my time and build a serious motor. When I finish, I'll switch them out and should be able to at least get my money back for the motor I just bought.
I have to switch my cams, cam gears, timing belt, head studs into the new engine.
Update on my bad engine:
Head is good. I've un-shrouded valves, polished chambers, ported and mirror-polished the exhaust ports, cleaned up intake ports.
I'm getting +1mm valves (3 angle valve job), upgrade springs and retainers, seals, valve guides, and resurfaced.
Block is good. I'm going to Bore .020" over, Wiseco Stroker pistons/rings, Oliver billet rods, New 4G64 crank, polished, knife edged. Clearance block, bal shaft removal, deck surfaced, rotating assembly balanced (to include Excedy twinplate flywheel and pressure plate).
Should be one bad stroker with lots of low end torque and quick spool up.

Nice
Things always have a bright side. Even if you don't get what you paid for it when you're done (that's a decent price for a good long block though), just think of the diff as what it cost to "rent" the engine while you did your build
Good luck with the build...take pics

Sweet, only I was concerned about Exedy clutch after reading this:

More bad news. I just pulled the housing off the hot side on the Turbo. little parts went thru and screwed up the turbine wheel.
I've found a few stock turbos from $325 and up.
Any other ideas? replace wheel or cartridge? I guess it would be a good time to upgrade but I don't have that kind of money now.

I just bought an 03 EVO 8 stock turbo for $260 shipped! Can't beat that.
I just ordered all the head parts.
I will begin my build up with the head on the new short block I have coming.
+1mm over SS valves, ported, polished, resurfaced, Cometic gasket, JAM springs (reusing stock retainers).
While I have time, I'm going to open up the turbine housing and really clean up the exhaust manifold and try to get it mirror finished. It's so damn hard, really eats up bits and rolls.
I'm also going to use my old turbo as a test bed.
