Autronic has been making stand-alone ecu's specificly for Evo's since the Evo 1. I've seen many DSM's with AEM ecu's have strange random no- start issues as well as features not working correctly such as anti-lag or 2 step launch control. I know AEM has come a long way in working out a lot of bugs, but why even risk the hassle when Autronic's have over a decade of success. It definately helps to have someone who know's the Autronic unit to help you out, but with the purachse of a Autronic you get to join Autronics private forum, which Ray Hall (The head of Autronic) is moderator of. I've heard bad things about AEM customer support as well.

Just to clear up a couple of misunderstandings,

IIRC the replacement boards started with Evo 5, but there was a evo 4 version shortly after with an extra mounting plate for the non plastic case of evo 4.

Ray Hall is the head of Ray Hall Turbocharging based in Cairns Australia, and does the bulk of the international distribution. The head of Autronic is Richard Aubert who does design / manufacture / etc.

The genuine Autronic design/manufactured boards are SM4, SM2, SMC and Evo 9 (3 plug, which includes 3 plug Evo 8), Subaru WRX 5 plug (2001-2005/6 depending on model), Subaru 3 plug (1999-2000) and Evo 4-8 4 plug.

Ray Hall makes some other base boards with an SM4 circuit board mounted on the base board. These boards are not supported by Richard Aubert as he does not have testers or circuit configurations for them.

just to add....ray's boards also work. these are fully functional sm4 boards with correct PNP connectors for some cars. it really saves you the time you need to do it yourself

Autronic ECU's don't have knock log and knock control yet. It will be available very soon.

Why do yu need that? I KNOW that AEM knock "control" doesn't work....if it works, why do you destroy engines then?!?!?

DynoFlash you should just relax. Autronic is the way to go. Aem has glitches and cold start problems like no other.

actually the EMS knock control works very well, you just have to be sure its setup properly. Its a lot better than having nothing at all, thats for sho.
