Please explain the optional MAP sensor

I have not yet installed my UTEC, I am waiting until I am 100% comfortable with my knoledge about tuning it for my mods and when I have plenty of time to tune it in a very safe non-cop infested place.

Anyway, I have been doing quite a bit of reading on here and continue to read over the manual like the UTEC suggests. I just would like to know a lil more about the optional MAP sensor.

I have been going through a huge PIA trying to recirc my HKS SSQV, from what I understand, this goes in after the turbo, so I caould VTA without the stalling and MPG issues I have (I dont have stalling, only bad MPG)

What am I limited to without using it?

Is this like the GM MAF they DSM guys do on 1G DSMs?

When you put this in do you take out the MAF?

Are there any cons to this? If so please list them.

TIA, Levi

The Map sensor will not change the setup to speed density as you are inidcating in your post. The issues you have with VTA on you BOV will not be solved with utilizing the map sensor.

The map sensor is used for logging boost in your log files, and can be used for load reference instead of the maf. Basically this means that as your rpms ramp up and your maf hz ramps up, the load site will then progressively move from 10% to 20% to 30 % columns and so on. The map sensor could be used in place of the maf for this only. As boost pressure increases or decreases, your load site would then follow accordingly.

There are no cons in using this other than the cost of having to purchase the map sensor. The pros are boost/vacuum data in your logs, and the ability to use this as a load source variable.

If you do not use it, then the only limitation would be that you could not use boost/vaccum as a load variable, and you won't see any pressure indications on your logs.

I hope this helps.

Nope, you don't need one. But it will let you logs boost data so it will be easier for you to figure out what exactly was happan in the log. It is needed if you want to run close-loop boost mode, but not if you run open-loop boost mode.

Yep.. There are a few features that can use the MAP Sensor if you have one.. but its not required. I use it on my car for closed loop boost control and logging..
