I just download the tune maps from Vishnu's website. I have been using their stages as I progress. My next jump is to go to the V390 stage (includes cams, cam gears, and fuel pump upgrades).

If I wanted to mess with it...I could, but I don't know enough about it. Thats what I like about the Xede. I can tune it myself, or use the various stage maps. I think to truly tune a car, you need access to a dyno. Or...spend a lot of time at the track making run after run after run.

I'm learning alot on this thread.

Not ramble too much, but my first EVO experiance was in Winchester, UK. I was there on business and I saw an EVO 6.5 TME in the parking lot. I had one ride and was hooked. James still owns the TME. I emailed James on this very question.

James says Motec is big bucks and thats what he uses. He calls it "Plug and Play". James initially had a tuner setup his TME, but over time has taken on all tuning. He is very satisfied with Motec.

I found out the EVO 8 plug and play board is under development for USDM EVO's.

Does anyone have hands on experiance with the Motec EVO 8 Plug and Play boards?

I recommend choosing from what your local shops will support. If you ever have problems you'll appreciate the ability to take your car to somebody local that will fix it.

Except that if it actually has a problem that is serious you wouldn't be able to get it to the shop. I'd personally rather have something I fully understand and can fix than something I have to leave to someone else... but if you really don't think you are capable.. then the local shop is better.
