apparently you didnt see the many previous threads dealing with the K&N typhoon intake. First of all, if u put that thing in ur car untuned - you will most likely gain nuttin or lose HP.
Second, the intake has many problems because it has to be tuned really well for the car, I remember a previous thread sayin that the typhoon intake took a while to gain the necessarily hp and tq.
Last, i heard a billion of problems wit this intake going with other mods (BOVs,LICP, and etc).
Just research and ull find out. Just stick wit the stock airbox if ur using stock turbo, just use a drop in K&N air filter.
Based on what I am reading here, I want to make sure what I am taking away is accurate.
The S-AFC is only good for tuning upper RPM ranges, and I am assuming only those in open loop.
I have large injectors and a custom tune from Dynoflash, but Al didnt spend anytime tuning the closed loop cruise AFR's for my car. So, this has left me with an AFR ~12.2 - 13.7 when I am driving in town and on the HWY. Which of course blows the Fuel Bank 1 too rich code. Al doesnt want to resolve the issue, since it will take a couple of hours, so I am trying to figure out what the hell I am going to do.
From what I read here though I dont think the S-AFC is going to help me. Can anything help in closed loop? Are there any software packages I can purchase that will allow me to fix this problem in my stock ECU? I looked at getting software from Techtom but they are really darn pricey for what I would need to do.
Thanks,

Thanks,
so basically all open/air cone intakes aren't good unless you tune your ecu...yea?...i agree going with the stock airbox and a drop-in k&N will work better without a tune..i only used the typhoon because it came with the car.
Hey Warrtalon: Now that you've added the Alky, requiring leaner fuel mapping, and /or allowing more timing advance, is that handled with a reflash or do you tune for Alky just with the S-AFC?
Warttalon, Thanks for that post. I am also brand new safc2. will be having mine installed in a few weeks. (or doing it myself, probably). I however have a regular lancer es... (please don't flame me). I have a fair understanding of what you wrote and a lot of it sounded familiar. However I still have a LOT to learn about my car and especially SAFC. My point is this - I plan on at having the SAFC professionally tuned (lots of dynos here in Daytona) at least once.... Roughly how much can I expect to pay for that? 3-4 hundred each time? more? less? Thanks for y'alls help. (Warttallon doesn't have to be the only person to answer me quesiton).
