i just bought a utec and i was wondering if anyone knew of someone who could help me tune it in the Los Angeles area, more specifically in the San Gabriel valley. By the time i add in the utec i'll have turbo back exhaust with a cat-delete, hks 272 intake/exhaust cams, typhoon intake, and weaponR ignition boost. oh and also i'm upgrading to a walbro 255 fuel pump. anything else i would need? anyone know of any good tuners in my area?? what else should i get along with the utec? anyone know of any maps taht would work with my setup or do i need a custom map for my car? oh..i plan on getting a set of cam gears as well.

 

I would suggest a wideband if you plan to tune it yourself. I wouldn't recommend using other people's maps. Each is different and if you're not careful, u can hurt your car.

 

Don't use the typhoon, it seems that everyone has problems with it.

 

With those mods I think it would be better just to go with a flash

 

what kind of flash would you recommend?

 

i don't like the typhoon either....i was thinking of fabricating a covering for it so that the k and N would be enclosed. it doesn't do much for a daily driver...

 

Well either a mail in flash or a custom flash

 

If he owns the utec already now, no need to go with a flash.

 

FIRST: Unless you are using a reputable local Dyno shop to tune things for you,
Get a wideband Air Fuel unit, it's a Must Have. At least consdider the Tuner by TurboXS. it'll log to your Utec and provide AF/s along side almost eveything else that you'll need to get started.

SECOND: Search the TurboXS forum for a process call Skeleton Maps that the UCC will create for you automatically from your test runs. (Utech Control Center is an interface for the Utec written in GUI form, ie., looks like a Windows program. (it's NOT from TurboXS)

THIRD: If you are not using a local Dyno Shop
Get a program for $60 that will calculate HP and Torques gains from your runs. Don't trust the Butt Dyno, it's easily fooled

DO NOT TRY TO TUNE WITHOUT ACCURATE AFR'S AVAILABLE IN A REAL TIME DISPLAY.

To do otherwise is palying Reverse Russian Roulette with your engine (that' where there is only one empty chamber,)

There are too many variables to try and describe the process here, but may be a book on tuning might help, one is called Tune to Win.

Read Read Read both the Utec manual and hopefully the Tuner Manual again and again.

Learn to log and review the logs noticing trends in order to try and get your head around the concepts.

FOURTH: Do a lot of searches in the TurboXS threads, there are some great posts that deal with getting started.


FIFTH: BE VERY VERY CAREFUL AND GO SLOWLY WHEN MODIFYING ANY TUNING PARAMETERS
