+1 provided of course you use the tools together like the Zeitronix and Timing logs...etc

Quote: Ignition timing does affect egts. Hot EGTs will STILL MELT YOUR MOTOR on top of indicate heat levels prone to causing knock. EGT is an imperative piece of the puzzle for both drag and roadrace applications regardless of fuel type. The best of tuners will use EGTs. Personally I would move to 4x egts, 1 @ each runner if I could.

OK so here is my question... where is the best place to install the probe? I have mine in the number 1 runner of my SS Tubular mani. MY EGT's read higher then some of the "ideal" numbers being entioned on here.

runner #1 or #2 approx 1 to 2" from the head.

What EGT's are you seeing?

Runner #2 on every car I have done. However #4 and 3 usually are the ones that detonate and break first. May not be a bad idea for Evo owners to start trying those cylinders.

So is my source of HIGH EGT's due to being on runner 1 ???

I really cant tell I have to log it. I have the peak hold feature that just tells me the highest EGT I registered.

Quick question:

I have the Zeitronix EGT probe, but just cant seem to find a bung for it

Ive tapped into the manifold and right now the Egt probe is screwed directly into the manifold without a bung...

Will that be a problem???????????

do I need to use the bung????

No, 97% of installs are done this way.

I was seeing 1620 F EGT's on runner #2 on stock manifold and TME (or basically stock) turbo at A/F's ratios of 12.3-12.5 and 20'ish psi of boost at redline when EGT's peaked. This was with a custom flash from a reputable tuner (active on evom) here. I didn't realize I was running this lean until I put a wideband on the car. Way to lean for my taste.

That was then, this is now..... switching to a tubular manifold and a 50 trim (again, from a reputable source here on evom), I can barely get EGT's above 1400 F. Even running A/F's in the mid twelves at 21#'s of boost at redline barely nets 1420F. Now I can buy into the fact that the 50 trim offers less backpressure than the stocker turbo, but that equates to 200 F drop in EGT????? I struggle to buy into that. This is all on 93 octane gas.

TTP (and everyone else of course), I'd appreciate your input on this one. Have you had similar experiences or is my setup wacked out?

Cooler inlet charge = cooler exhaust temps. Does sound a little on the low side though. Runners maybe larger diameter.

Got a question to TTP:

I am seeing temperatures of up to 1600F after the turbo (defi sensor located in O2 housing right after the turbo. I am currently pushing 75HP over stock (measured in almost 40F hotther weather) for over a year without a hickup (around 30% more than stock baseline)

Another friend tuned by the same tuner gets similar temperatures and he is pushing over 100HP over stock for over a year.

Do you think these are dangerous temperatures?

I recently ordered GSC 280 cams for the IX and my car will be tuned again once I receive them. The feedback I get here could be usefull in giving feedback to my tuner. TIA!!!

I don't necessarily think power output over stock has much to do with EGT temps. It is all in the ign timing and AFR tuning.

Personally I would not consider myself to be an expert in post-turbo EGT evaluation since it is a merger of all 4 runners and not an individual assessment of cylinder EGT.

As far as bost goes, my boost spikes to 1.7 drops to 1.5-1.55 and holds 1.45-1.5 till redline in 5th gear. you can see my mods in my sig.

Could you suggest timing and afr values after installing the GSC 280 mivec cams? from reading the board over the past year, afrs should be no more than 11.2-11.5 to be safe but I don"t know much about timing.

this time, I am going to insist being in the car when they are tuning it, so any recommendations with regards to target afr, timing & max. knock count would be much appreciated...
