Basic Necessary Gauges

I'm a flashed '03 w/a number of upgrades and would like to get gauged/sensored up to one day move on to a full management system. I know I need AFR, but should I be investing in others in the meantime to be ready for the switch one day?

Also, how are these mounted on the car at the sensor point (I can handle gauge placement issues)? I know the AFR needs a bung in the exhaust, but where? What/where/how do the other gauges tie in?

Any specific kit recommendations while we're at it? Who's, who's got a good deal on gauge sets, etc.

Thanks.

BTW, I have Auterra on my palm for some monitoring if anybody cares..

Basic gauges in order of priority (my priority, atleast)

1) Boost gauge
2) Oil pressure
3) AFR
4) EGT
5) water temp
6) Not sure what goes in 6 (oil temp or fuel pressure, perhaps).

I plan on getting the zietronix wideband as it includes 1, 3 and 4 listed above. I will get the gruppe-s panel and install 2, 5 and 6. I need to know what to get in 6.

Sensor location:
1) AFR bung somehere in downpipe
2) Oil pressure sensor on oil filter mounting bracket where stock sensor is
3) EGT bung/probe in #1 or #2 runner, 2 inches from head
4) Fuel pressure off the Fuel rail/FPR
5) Water temp off the thermostat neck
6) Oil temp, same location as #2
7) boost pressure off intake manifold

In addition for EMS or similar, you will need an AIT (Air Intake temp) sensor bunged off your IC pipe and a MAP sensor which will mount somewhere on the firewall and run off Intake manifold preesure like #7 above

Does this help you any?

That's an immense amount of information concisely communicated, thanks!

Bare essentials, it would seem, would be boost gauge (already have), AFR, EGT so I could at least use some less expensive tools (SAFC2 or similar borrowed from another vehicle temporarily) while working up to replacing the flash with a full management system.

Sounds like you are on your way!

oil pressure is a key gauge, so I would include it for any setup you run!

A boost gauge not only is a necesity but is also a diagnosis tool.
