EvoScan and 2G DSMs

I have a bunch of friends with 2G DSMs, and I've been logging their cars with EvoScan... A couple have DSM link, a couple others have an SAFC. I have a bunch of questions, if anyone can answer...

1) Is KnockSum when logging a 2G DSM comparable to logging an Evo? ie., 0-2 is mostly safe, 3 or more you're in danger? One of the guys has straight 1 KnockSum from the second he gets on WOT to the second he lets off

2) Is OctaneLevel when logging a 2G DSM comparable to logging an Evo? Same guy as above has OctaneLevel go from high 90's down to as low as 15 at WOT

3) If I was to tune AFR with EvoScan without a wideband, what do I log for narrowband and how do I make use of narrowband numbers?

4) What is the typical timing map for a 2G DSM? Should cruise be similar to an Evo (30's) and then WOT ramp down to ~4 at peak torque and up to ~12 by redline ?

Thanks in advance.

I was not aware that you can log the 2g dsm's with evoscan. Can you also log 1g dsm's?

The 1g has a knock count from 0-43. The 2g I believe is the same. For every 3 counts of knock the ecu pulls 2 degree of timing. More precisely it pulls 90/255 degrees of timing for every 1 degree of knock. When the car is above a certian temperature it pulls 1 degree. When the car is too cold it also pulls 1 degree and adds some extra fuel as well. On a stock motor under 10 counts is "safe". It is ideal to tune cars as close to 0 as possible but this often doesn't result in as much power and dsm's tend to knock a lot more than evo's. 4 at peak torque to 12 up top sounds like he's running his injectors pretty hard or knocking a fair bit. You can't really tune on a narrowband. They are too slow and vary from car to car. LC1's are only 200 bucks anymore so its really not worth the effort to even try.

Thanks for the update.

I was able to find these, which are stock 2G DSM Maps. The left column is engine load (high to low) and the top row is engine speed

I could run quite a bit more timing on my 2g. I think I had it peak at 20 degree's with no knock on a 20g/supporting mods, 44-45 pounds per minute according to DSMLink.

I would have to say though, 10 counts is real bad, I am pretty sure it does not go to 43 or whatever like the 1g.

Try setting the timeout to a high value... I can't remember what it is by default, but if you triple or quadruple it, that should work.
