OFFICIAL COBB EVO AccessPORT released and DYNO results

Just 4 units left in stock, Oct 19, 2007. 3 week back order from COBB once these are sold out.

DYNO Results are IN!!!, See third post in this thread (just scroll down a pinch)

(note, smoke due to new exhaust)

As one of COBBs leading Dealers / Tuners iA Performance is proud to announce of the EVO accessport release. Ready for immediate shipping as of Oct 5, 2007. By the end of Monday Oct 18th we should have our before and after dyno results posted as well. Here is some info on the units, as well as various informative links.

The AccessPORT is a handheld device that allows you to reprogram your vehicle's computer (ECU) to optimize parameters such as the air/fuel ratio and ignition timing. The "mapping" will also increase boost, remove the speed limiter, and more for instant performance results you can feel!

Projected Power Increases with preloaded maps (these are on every AccessPORT already, or free to download from cobb's site here

[download map]

Maps
Below are EVO 8 power stages. Maps and power outputs for EVO 9 can be found above in the link [download map]

Stage1 = stock car with AP
Stage2 = turbo back car with AP

Stage 1 91oct = +5% HP / + 1.2% lb-ft
Stage 1 93oct = +8% HP / + 5.8% lb-ft

Stage 2 91oct = +22% HP / + 19% lb-ft
Stage 2 91oct for Arizona, California, Nevada gas people +21% HP / + 18% lb-ft
Stage 2 93oct = +24% HP / + 20.1% lb-ft

Other maps
  • Valet Mode - Lowers Rev Limit and lowers boost limit
  • Anti-Theft - Does not allow vehicle to start
  • Stock Mode - runs stock mapping at the press of a button, perfect for dealership warranty work time.
  • Economy Mode - we've seen our Subaru customers increase MPG by 2-4 on average with this map alone. Lowers boost and increases ignition timing. No recommended for spirited driving.
* note: maps requiring lowered boost will need to use the factory boost solenoid for proper effectiveness.

Cost
$695 (free shipping through iA Performance)

FAQs:
Q: How easy is it to install
A: super easy, see video below of actual install

Q: How big is the accessport
A: Size of a cell phone. Click here to see actual size in adult hand

Q: Why AccessPORT over free software
A: Selling points
*portable
* no laptop needed, has maps on it already, a PC can be used to upload too
* Installs in minutes the first time, then switch maps in seconds thereafter
* You can uninstall and resell the AP down the road. Total lost money would be about $100-150, roughly the cost of a do-it-yourself cable.
* live DTC reading, live data (boost, timing, coolant temp, volts, etc)

Q: What if I aleady have EcuTek or OpenECU on my ECU
A: The AP can connect and write over that information, this is the same for Subarus.

Q: Can I flash my EVO and then flash my buddy's EVO with it?
A: Yes, but you will need to uninstall the unit from your car first. The AP marries itself to the ECU. It is unable to communicate with another car until unmarried.

More Q and A to follow ......

Dyno is DONE

Now before some individual feels it fit to pipe-in that his car makes X amount more power please read on. This is a discussion forum for the COBB AccessPORT. This is not a forum to discuss how your car made 375 whp on pump gas I.E. this is not a measuring match, this is rather a show and tell. We show, and we tell, you read and respond back with educated questions/remarks. This should help spread the education of a new part to the Mitsu community. These are OFF THE SHELF maps, not custom tunes. Now that I'm done being Mr. Mom let's get into the heart of the matter.

Back Ground on Test Car
Car was 100% stock EVO 9 5 speed, 9900 miles. All tests were done the same day , same dyno, same settings, same technician (I'm still tired), etc. Boost leak test was performed first thing to ensure car was in tip top condition. She laid down a very common base line figure for a stock EVO 9.

Upload process

So easy a child can do it. Just plug in 2 connectors and follow the on screen prompts. No cutting, nothing permanent, etc. honestly, it is VERY easy to install this and to navigate the well designed screens.

We have a video, but I"ll probably need to beg CPA5 to come back in so I can get a bit better footage this next time Here is the best I have in the mean time:

Saving Stock Data
(correct, the AP saves your stock map setting prior to over writing them. They are saved in the AP for when you are ready to uninstall the AP)

Upload in progress
(note my kung foo grip )

Install completed
(takes about 10 minutes the first time, shorter the next time)

DYNO TIME

Stock car vs COBB Stg 1 91
Power Gains at the wheels
+ 22 TQ = 9% peak gain over stock!
+ 31 HP = 12.8% peak gain over stock!

Stock car vs COBB Stg 2 91
Power Gains at the wheels
+ 32 TQ = 13% peak gain over stock!
+ 43 HP = 17.8% peak gain over stock!

Overall we were very happy with the power deliver. These are off the shelf maps intended to work on EVOs across the USA. They also deliver the expected advertised power levels.

Some key features that the AP shows under LIVE DATA are:
- Speed
- RPM
- Short Term Fuel Trim
- Long Term Fuel Trim
- Coolant Temp
- Knock Sum
- Timing Advance
- and a few others I'm drawing a blank on, but will add to this list when I recall them.

These are live read outs, not for data log at this time. Pretty handy to say the least though.

Special thanks to CPA5, his wife, his buddy, his buddy's wife, COBB, and the IA Staff!!!!!!

Some screen shots of actual items (instock ready to ship). Very simply to install and to navigate.

Trouble Code Reading

Reset ECU (no longer have to get a 10mm wrench to disconnect battery)

Stpehen (I may drive a subaru, but still have love for EVOs)

Cobb gives you 21-22 tapering to 18-19 with the stock boost controller once you remove the pill on the solenoid side. You can always add your own boost controller but then if you up the boost you won't be tuned for it.

remember that this map is good whether you are in CA, FL or Mass. If you want more power on stock car, you have to bring it to a Cobb ProTuner, and get a dyno tune, it will give you another say 5+% because it will take into account your local gas, air density, etc.

Tarmacisblack69- the AccessPORT will take care of controlling the boost. You will have to remove one restrictor pill, very easy and simple to do.

Deeznuttz83- cobbs maps and power claims are for a broad spectrum of cars. Some will make more than others. Additional power can be had when tuned specifically to your car (software coming from Cobb shortly). Keep in mind, their maps have to work on a EVO at 9000ft elevation as well as sea level

pltek- I couldn't have put it better myself

No, there are separate maps for 91 octane and the 91 octane in California/Nevada/Arizona specifically, though the specs for stage 1 on that fuel aren't on this page but on the actual Cobb site.

http://www.accessecu.com/accessport/...04EVOMaps.html

However, the results are better for the IX, I must say. Better news.

But keep in mind that the AP also has specific maps for high elevation for the Evo IX.

Will this work with a GM MAF, or does it support speed density at all?

at this time No on the GM MAF and SD. To my Understanding COBB is working on a program to run SD in the Near Future.
