Accessport for evo VII/IX discontinued

whoops - missed a digit in the thread title but you get me -

per cobb's website:

*** The AccessPORT for the EVO VIII and IX has been discontinued. The EVO VIII and IX require a specialized OBD-II dongle that is not used in any other application and it is no longer cost effective to manufacture this dongle at the current sales volumes.***

Does this mean no support, or just no more hardware sales?

Just hardware sales I'd say. I'm sure you can still call them if you need help.

I hope current owners will be able to buy a new dongle if they need one.

Yeah really...this should be a sticky here, even though this forum doesn't move that much.

They must really be downsizing. They've done the same thing for the mazdaspeed 3 community.

I'm guessing its more just a matter of focusing on where they are seeing the biggest market: the evo X and the GTR. I don't know if they are downsizing their workforce as much as just trying to keep the workload manageable and focused.

I was thinking about this also.

I wonder how much it would be to contact cobb and have one shipped off to you or have one made if it does. I'm guessing it will not be cheap if even possible.

I cant imagine this does anything but down drive the cost/value of the exisiting AP's out there for the evo VIII/IX though. Perhaps picking up a spare when they hit really cheap prices may be the way to go (if they ever get much cheaper, and I suspect they will).

Yeah, I'd say the value just dropped to little or nothing. No support from the company (at least that is what I infer from this thread) and I doubt protuners will be willing to protune an Evo if they can't get help from Cobb if they won't offer support of the vehicle. Looks like I'll be hoping for the best with the AP, but I'll be having GST do a new flash if this ever dies.

Yeah me too man. I was there the SAME DAY they made this announcement, getting the right boost lines with the modified pill from chris. I'm willing to bet this is simply a matter of them no longer producing the AP for the VIII/IX's as opposed to not helping the protuners with tuning questions though.

AP for EVO VIII/IX

We will continue to support those users who will continue to use the AccessPORT on the EVO VIII/IX through tuning support and spare parts replacement as long as those parts exist. As has been posted below these EVOs require a special dongle that is no longer in production.

However, we have not abandoned our loyal customers and we will continue to do our utmost to continue to the level of tuning and customer service that you have come to expect from COBB Tuning.

I hear the MS3 owners were non-receptive of the AP due to minor issues in the beginning and perhaps many did not have the patience to wait for COBB to work out the kinks. Not sure what happened, but COBB decided it was better not to continue that market.

Is there anything special about the dongle (any circuitry) that it could go bad? Or is it just an interconnecting adapter?

I don't know, but there's been a couple of people whose dongles didn't work for one reason or another.
