Limits of stock ECU ?
Limits of stock ECU ?
Approx what limits,HP wise or perhaps tuning wise does the stock ECU become a hindrance ? Or is an aftermarket ECU benefit more along the lines of a more complete control,SD tuning, multiple timing/VE Maps or what. I am not exactly sure how to look or search for subjects on this so I figured I would just post. Coming from LS series cars,we run stock ECUs with custom OS depending on how much boost/emissions compatibility. I also need to pass plug in OBD2 readiness, will an AEM or similar allow this ? Vehicle in question is 05 EVO8,approx 30psi boost, street driven.
No you cant pass obd inspection with an AEM.
You can go SD on the stock ecu. As far as HP on the stock ecu here

Search "bastard Evo" and look what AWD Motorsports have done with the stock ecu. Their drag car is 900+ horsepower, forward facing turbo, 2000cc injectors and runs 9.2s and 160+ mph in the 1/4th. There really does not seem to be a limit to the stock ecu.
