Autronic questions

Ive been trying to find out if the autronic has any automatic safety features like knock control or ignition retarding or fuel cut. I also wanted to know if I need to buy any extra sensors for the plug and play version for the evo. Does this version come with a map sensor? I also wanted to use the self tune feature is this standard or optional and does it work ok?

From what I understand the Autronic does not have knock correction? Not 100% sure about this but I have heard that it does not even monitor the stock knock sensor?

it also had the auto tune as a standar feature and you do NOT need to buy any extra sensors in order to use it.
Does it allow you to map the O2 input? or do you have to use a wideband that has a standard output that matches thiers?

Far as I know the AEM is the only stand alone ECU with knock correction right now. It is a nice feature, but there are arguments that can be made for and against it, although I am trying to get APEXI to add it to the Power FC so....

Obviously people have already managed to damage motors due to detonation with the stock ECU, which employs a pretty aggressive Knock correction feature already so...

As long as you can some how monitor knock and then make adjustments to correct it, (like lowering your boost, adding fuel, pulling timing, getting rid of some bad gas, etc), you don't necessarily need and auto knock correction. It is kind of neat though.

The Autronic does not have Knock Correction. And to use the Autotune feature you'll need a wideband A/F meter with a 0-1v corrected output.

Actually the SM4 has knock controll well above anything else. It is able to know exactly what cylinder is knocking and only add fuel to that one cylinder leaving the rest alone that way you dont have as much power loss dumping fuel to all 4 cylinders.

The sm4 still does not include the knock control in the unit that they sell am I right? Its an extra module right for a seperate price? Also for autotune, you'll need their wideband controller which is pretty expensive(~1600-1800) or a cheaper compatible 0-1V output(fjo racing or innovative motorsports makes an adaptor)

I didn't know the sm4 had individual cylinder knock retardation.

2K4EvoVIII, I was told that the pnp sm4 based board was not yet available for the evo 8, by Sean Powers(east coast distributor). Where did you get yours?

You are correct the PNP SM4 based EVO 8 ecu is not available yet they have them in 4 evos right now testing them. But it is based off the SM4 not a true SM4 unit.

The one i got for my car was the standalone SM4 (not PNP) and it does have the knock control. When i became a dealer you have to buy at least 3 ECU's and 1 of there wideband units so i already got all that.

Wait until the SM5 is coming out. Its still a year or more out but one feature that is pretty cool is there Ignition automap feature they are working on along with of course the fuel automap.

Anyway enough of my going on and on. Sorry if you thought i was talking about the PNP. But all in all the SM4 is a great ECU and its not that hard to wire up and you are able to get rid allot of the useless sensors IMO.

So will someone be able to get a basemap from autronic, when running the non pnp SM4. I was considering this but am a little concerned about the base map and startup calibration.

Chris

Chris,

Are they going to autmap the ignition off of the knock sensor? Or are they looking into a new approach using Ion-sensing ignition setup to read cylinder pressures?

They are using Ion Sensing. Let me tell you i tuned a RX7 this weekened on a SM4. I plugged 1 number in the fuel table in every cell. Started the car and it idled took off and it ran with just 1 number in the whole table. AMAZING!!! Turned on the Autotune and had the whole map dialed in within 3% of the target air fuel in about 30 minutes. I LOVE THIS ECU!!!

No they havent even released the SM4 to the public yet. Dealers can get them though. No i knew about this from going to seminars and talking to Ray Hall and Ben from EFI101. The SM5 is probably still awhile away but man what a good thing to be waiting for!!
