96' CN9A Evo IV Support
96' CN9A Evo IV Support
What's up EvolutionM,
I'm looking for tuning capabilities for my Evo 4. I've been using nearly standalone tuning software on my Ion Redline(HPTuners) for a while now and I'd like to grab something for the Evo as I'm at that stage now I believe where I want to hit a dyno and mess around. Knock reading abilities of course would be crucial here so no piggy back units and the best control over the fueling/timing possible.
I'm currently in Spain for the time being and I've never been a big fan of "tell me your mods and here's a flash" can tunes and I like being able to tune on my own. Anybody got anything for me? The car will see circuit tracks out here as drag strips don't exist, that's what it's primarily built for...when I get back to the states, the drag strip will be my main priority.
Thanks a lot for any input,
Dom

I believe the most common approach folks take is to swap in a V/VI/VII/VIII ECU (which requires re-pinning five or so connections), which you can tune yourself via EcuFlash. You might check out GeekMapped or Lancer Register for more details; specifically, GeekMapped has quite a few threads about Evo V/IV flashing, and VII/VIII ECUs have been reflashable for a long time.
The IV ECUs are not reflashable, as I understand it, so you'll be looking at either piggyback devices or a replacement (aftermarket or flashable stock replacement) in any event.
(Granted, I haven't dealt with any of these directly, so I could very well be speaking out of my backside.

I believe your absolutely right about the IV not having a flashable ECU...I remember reading that was one of the upgrades/differences starting w/the Evo V. I think I have crank walk anyway so I'll more than likely be putting an Evo 8 engine in the car anyway so a matching ECU would be ideal.
All stuff I'll have to do some looking in to as I could be shooting for impossible, still kind of a newb myself.

5/6 ecu is a direct swap ,7/8 need a few wires swapped and a modded rom to keep cel away . best to fit 560cc evo5 to 9 injectors also. ecuflash and op 2 cable use evoscan for logging
