Issue Installing Cobb AP
Issue Installing Cobb AP
I bought a used AP from a user on this board for my 2010 SE (SST). I thought I had read that it would work with the SST cars.
When I connect it to the car, it registers as a MR. When I started the install, and it started pulling down my ECU code, all of a sudden the radiator fans came on high, and error codes started appearing on my car's info display of high temp, transmission issue, etc.... I got nervous and shut it off mid-download, and was able to recover and reload the default load.
Is this normal? I did breeze thru the docs, but I didn't see anything about this? Or is the unit completely wrong? It is running the latest firmware. Or is the AP in general really not compatible with the SST cars?

From the Cobb Tuning Blog:
http://blogs.cobbtuning.com/2008/11/...subishi-evo-x/
Question:
Is the Stage 1 map Evo MR (TC-SST) friendly? Will the transmission's shift quality and reliability be compromised?
Answer:
Yes, it is MR tested and safe.
I'd also like to hear an 'official' reply here to your question, although it would certainly seem that it should be fully compatible with an SE. Do you know if the AP came with the most recent firmware version -- in reading the blog, i see that there have been prior versions that became unstable under certain conditions. You could try reaching them at calibration@cobbtuning.com or by phone at 801-713-0035.

OK, I spoke to the customer support at Cobb, and they told me that the behavior I spoke of above is normal.
He explained that the ECU is basicaly being erased and re-written and it throws the entire system for a loop. He assured me this was normal. He further explained that BMW's, GTR's, etc also behave this way. Did I miss that in the instructions?
I also asked, more than once, if the maps will work with my SST, and he assured me that they would. I even specified AEM stage 1 (which is what I am trying to do).
So I'll give it another go in a day or two and see how it goes.
Thanks all for the quick replies!

Mikey, thanks man -- good to know what to expect, i probably would've pull the plug like you did. you would think they'd make some mention of that in the user's manual. let us know how it goes and how it turns out for you!
Hey, yes that is normal for the fans to run and such. I had Cobb AP stage II on my LGT and each time I did an ECU reprogram, it ran the fans and made the car go crazy. Once the software is completely loaded all goes back to normal.
FYI, not sure if it's all makes and models of cars, but the first time you start the car after the reflash, it will not start. The engine does not turn over. On the second try, it will start. Something to do with the ECU connecting back to the rest of the car or something.
