If your car is bouncing around at 6k rpm then it is likely 2-step otherwise you'd be hitting the rev limiter. Depending on your car 2-step can work various ways. What do you mean it isn't building any boost? Any kind of rev limiting should build boost since it's creating engine load & exhaust gases. My car will build up to about 5psi and then once I slip the clutch I'll pretty much hit max boost (30psi) almost instantly. My car is also really modified, obviously.

When you're "2-stepping", i.e. holding the clutch to the floor and flooring you gas pedal it should bounce off whatever it's set to (6k apparently in your car). It should be relatively fast at first, and after a few seconds it should start to slow down. Somewhere in this slow down (usually takes around 3-5 full seconds in my car). Once your car gets to this point - assuming it does - what happens when you drop the clutch? Oh, and I assume your boost gauge works under normal driving?
