Evo 8 stalls when its not warm

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I have an evo 8 and when I start it i have to give it a little gas to keep it running until the car warms up. or it will die.

When it's fully warmed up it idles around 1100, so I know its got to be some sort of sensor or something with the tune that it doesnt want to idle normally when I first start it. I'm pretty new to this and its still on the tune from the guy I bought it from.

Any thoughts on this??

What kind of mods does the car have? Was it tuned?

I have done a little research and I'm starting to think its the IACV. Not sure though my symptoms match alot of people that have had trouble with that. Is there a way to clean the IACV or just buy a new one?

No CELs. How would I check the throttle body for leaks?

It has been tuned but not while I owned it, it was tuned by Modified by KC.

For mods as far as I know: it has custom charge piping, MR BOV, Injen intake, exhaust, a braille lightweight battery. Not sure on engine internals as I haven't gotten around to pulling it apart but I was told it was stock on the inside. tuned on 91. I have replaced the MAF and I'm going with a speed density soon.

I'm still learning alot about this car and this problem is driving me nuts, so thanks for the patience.

Has it been doing it the entire time you've bought the car? May need to check some tables in the tune.. AFTER you check all the obvious sensors and connectors, head here for reference - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...cv-tables.html

it hasn't done it since I bought it. Just started doing it this winter. At first I thought it was just because of the super cold, but even on 40* days its still a ***** to start I have to give it gas for like 5 minutes or it won't stay running. Don't know what to do really, all of my evo guys are stumped by it too.

Maybe it is just the tune and something got changed somehow I will keep you guys posted.

Hi there,

I recently started to have the same issues on my standard JDM8.

Went to my mechanic and he presurised the system to check for leaks which it didn have.
went in with tethra thingy i think and found the values all screwed up.

he got it all nice again.
Next morning it started and threatened to stall but idled very slowly so with some pedal work i kept it going and shortly after once warmed up all good.

Mind you we are in summer.

Took it back he re-did the values as they went off again.
Same thing next day.

He thinks it's the IACV.
Basically a $300 new OEM unit from Mitsu.

No on set of the problem, just happened as i was turning into my home and the motor stalled, lost power steering and had to brake hard before hitting a curb.

Let us know what it turns out to be on your machine please and i will too once i get it.
Hopefully we don't blow cash only to find it was something else.
Not throwing any codes either.

Steve

It was my IACV! it works perfectly now, I bought one used for 40 bucks so if thats an option for you I would definitely do that instead of paying 300 from mitsu.

Awesome to hear man. Thanks for letting us know too.
$40...... that's just awesome.
Unless I find one on ebay no one in OZ will sell one for that price from what i have seen. Even if 2nd hand.
Cant go wrong at that price.
Take it easy.

I would check the classifieds here and see if you can find one cheaper. usually in the partouts even if you have to pay alot for shipping it should still be cheaper than 300.
