Missing BISS screw
Missing BISS screw
All right... My first official question here. I've read all the threads on this, but I still need a lil help. I purchased my world eater of an 03 Evo over a year and a half ago and I've been fighting all the previous owners poor decisions since. Im starting to understand why this car sat at the dealer for 9 months before I happened along...
I've figured out most stuff except this recent realization and now current dilema. I've been chasing various boost leaks, and subsequent poor performance, and my last and final area of attack is the throttle body. I plan to rebuild/clean it and replace the seals and whatnot, but I read that a small adjustment of the biss screw would help with my low idle and stalling when coming out of gear etc. If it was written, I've read it and tried it. So I figured why not give the screw a turn and see if I can't get a rise out of my car. Pun intended.
To my surprise... There's no freaking BISS screw in the throttle body!!! My question, can I simply screw a new one in, hopefully fix my leak and idle issues, or do I have to tear down the TB and really get in there. And subsequently, do I need Evo Scan and the cable etc... I do plan on getting evo scan eventually, but my money is tight at the moment. If I can simply screw a new screw in, can I set it to desired idle and be done for awhile, or is this really an extensive undertaking.
Unfortunately, my evo is my DD, and most work done on it has to be quick and pain free.
Thanks ahead of time.

You can screw a new one in without taking the throttle body off. They're $2.50 at ExtremePSI. http://www.extremepsi.com/store/prod...2&cat=0&page=1
The fact that you can even drive the car with that big of a boost leak is surprising.

The clutch is needlessly a 4 puck, numerous boost leaks (now all found), he had VTA BOV, the brembos were warped, the ac condenser looked like he shot it with buckshot, the oil pan was rusted and leaking like a siv (actually had flex seal sprayed over it so i didnt notice till like four months in), about two weeks ago the front left spring failed and destroyed the tire, while driving, i just found a leak in my exhaust yesterday, my recaro seatback just cracked as well, the ebrake is shot, the fan just died, the blades on the turbo look like they battled a dragon, just found the missing BISS screw obviously, and i know theres more i cant think of off the top of my head.
Needless to say, a cheap simple screw fix goes a long way for my mental sanity!
i am going through massive previous owner debugging too. culminating in a stroker build. at least youll know whats in it. i too can not believe it ran. just buy a cable. your gonna need to do a crap load of tuning if this car was calibrated around that leak.
I'll check out New England Evo for sure, thanks.
And yeah the previous owner rode it hard, took the good stuff off, tossed most of the stock back in hap hazzardly tightened it ***** nilly, left the bad tune, and traded it at the dealer... I happened along 9 months later and well, I love it, but I hate it.
But when I'm done, oh boy look out

So, I finnaly got the screw in the mail today and went out and tried to put it in to no avail. Reaching in with the screw driver I could actually feel the old screw, broken. I worked it a good fifteen minutes, got it to budge just a smidge, and amazingly it ran perfectly! No doubt I need to get the old one out and the new one in, but at least for the time being in this cold weather it sealed the boost leak and its not stalling. I simply can't believe it, and I'm so glad I don't need to throw more money at it. Now I just need for it to warm up so I can get the bar off in the way and get that dang screw out...
