need help
Ok so here is what I have going on. I have a basically stock evo that I believe the past owner tried tuning and messed it up. It runs ritch under any kind of boost. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just put a stock map back on the ecu or should I take it to get a professional tune. I dont like the idea of spending extra money if im able to do it my own. If anyone here is near spokane Washington and is willing to help let me know id greatly appreciate it
Just spend the money and get a pro to tune to car. How rich is it running and why are you concerned about it? It could have been tuned that way for a variety of reasons.
Check the obvious stuff first:
1. An Alt map (for E85) may have been selected by mistake. You can switch between the regular gas map and an alternate E85 map if a Tephra V7 ROM was loaded and set for TPS switching. To toggle between them, key on then press and hold the gas pedal at full throttle for a few seconds and watch the check engine light. If it flashes slowly you have just switched back to the regular gas map. This should run better if you were mistakenly on the E85 map.
2. Do a boost leak test and fix all the leaks! Most of the time, if boost was raised from stock by a previous owner, and the fuel map was tuned to compensate, a boost leak is the reason for excessive richness. You will have to do this anyway if you decide you are going to take it to be tuned.
3. If you are sure you are stock, and have no boost leaks, load up a stock map for your year and model to get you something drivable.

Not sure if I would trust it, but if you wanna go the cheap route and have an OpenPort cable and ECUflash you could download one from here if there is one labeled stock for your year and model

I think you would just have to download, change the immobilizer code in the ROM to the one you read off your cars ROM and send it to the ECU. Definitely save your cars ROM tho so you can undo it if anything goes weird.

Ok so I got my tactrix open port 2.0 got evu flash downloaded on my mini laptop got the mitsulogger downloaded followed merlins guide to tuning to a t. And went step by step but i cant connect to my ecu. It wont light up with the blue arrow so im assuming it is locked out? Can I unlock it or do I have to take it to the dealer now?
Not sure :/ Do you have the right openport cable? My VIII uses openport 1.3. You may need to change your EcuFlash settings to "Developer" but I thought that would just give you more freedom to edit maps and tables. The car might need to be in ACC mode OFF, or ON but not running. Try playing around with the ignition and seeing if you can get the car to read. It could also have to do with drivers for the cable on the laptop. See if you can log data to make sure everything is working in terms of the computer communicating with the car
