Just wanted to give a weekend update for UTEC Logger!

The next release (hopefully tonight or tomorrow) will have full real time abilities with logging and real time graph displays. I have tested 6 different types of laptops (from a 486 to a Centrino) and they are all working good. I have also tested 4 different USB to Serial devices and they are all working as well. I can never fully test everything so I will need feedback from anyone that uses the package on how things work.

The bad news is I didnt compile the serial support files in my first release which means a full download will be needed again. I wont need to distribute the core files just a new install with the serial support added. The file size will most likely be around 4MB since I like to use the MSI installer package. MSI is an ugly beast and takes up a lot of space but it ensures that the program can always uninstall properly and doesnt clog up your registry.

I have been monitoring system loads with the software and even during peak load capacity on a 486 its still takes less then 10% CPU utilization so you guys with older laptops should be ok.

I hope everyone enjoys their Easter Holiday!

Hello again all!

UTEC Logger is well on its way to a first offical full release. An update on the features are as follows:

-Able to display and log realtime data. This gives you a digital dashboard as so to speak that display everything thats happening with your car real time as it happens. Graphs are also updated real time
-UTEC Logger now gives you the ability to save your log when completed. It saves the log in a place that you specify and the log looks identicle to the log that you would capture manually from the UTEC. This allows you to use the log in other apps if need be and also allows for easy playback of the log later.
-AUTO-COM detection! UTEC Logger now provides a list of available com ports on your system to connect to the UTEC with. You are also able to relay any data gathered real time over the internet to any place you choose and, if you are so inclined, send real time updates to a web page for the whole world to see your car playback or real time run. I will have different download options for this feature just in case you dont want the Web Server built into the software

KNOWN ISSUES:
-Having some COM Port naming issues. Some systems, especially those using USB com ports, give the device a funky name that cant be interpreted by UTEC Logger. The device is still selectable and will work properly it just doesnt come up as COM1 etc. Usually ends up being ASLR:1 or something of this type

STILL IN THE WORKS:
-I am still putting together the advanced graph station that will allow you to overlay data of your choosing and provide cursors to get exact measurements on lines.

I expect to release this new version once I have completed some additional tests on multiple vehicles and multiple laptops. The CPU utilization is still below 10% even on a 486 (only 1% on a Mobile Celeron) so I am not concerned about laptop compatibility!

I know as the features get advanced peeps may start to worry I will start to charge for the software but dont worry I never plan on marketing the tool. I figure the more people that are enabled with the proper tools will provide more feedback on how to improve the Evo maps and thats all that matters to me!!

See you all soon with an update!

UPDATES:

After talking to some users I have received alot of feedback on items that look great but arent really useable. Among these items is the large Tach display. Since I am gearing this tool towards people that want to have a portable lab for tuning their vehicle I am now taking a step towards removing the gauges and having one large graph for displaying the captured data. THe graph has multiple cursors that can be used to check all the variables. You can also determine what you want to display on this graph via a selectable box.

I am also now working on a real time map editor along with extra map saving functions, including notes, so that they can be reviewed later. You can also save the map into a jpg file to email to someone or display on a message board.

Please provide me any feedback on what you would like to see in a portable lab tool for tuning. It doesnt matter what you want to see just ask! The only bad idea is one that isnt communicated =)

right on dude, i allready have a tach on the car. But a very sophisticated super-imposable graphing system using required data for tuning is the ticket!!

You need to use some sort of FTP software. For some reason my server doesnt allow http sessions. There are tons of free ftp software packages availabe. I use bulletproof FTP myself. It can be downloaded at http://www.bpftp.com/

Hope that helps. I will work on getting a Web site up this weekend that will allow you to download via http.

from internet explorer, type ftp://67.170.164.219

The program looks really nice, however you have to adjust it so the screen scales, its too large to fit on the screen of my laptop.

I think one of the dlls in your app conflicts with something on my machine, but I suspect its one of my developer tools so its unique to my laptop.

The screen should be set to 800x600. What resolution are you running on your laptop? If it isnt fitting full screen at 800x600 let me know what brand and model of laptop you have and I will see if I can figure out whats going on.

SON OF A BROOOWN!!

Damn.. the program should be autoscaling everything to 800x600 when it detects a resolution lower then 1024x768 but its not working properly. It works on my system at home but its not working on the 3 laptops I have here at work. Ill look into this tonight and see if I can fix the problem or just hard set it to 800x600.

Also one other thing. I have the graphs hard set to 8000 right now for the Y scale. I am giving thought to changing this to autoscale unless anyone has objections.

You might want it to auto scale, or at least let the user pick an upper point... Once I get my new block and crank I'll be seeing 9000 rpm's.

Anyway, my laptop is an older IBM 240x running at 800x600 I tried it on my newer laptop an IBM T20, at 1024x768 it seems to be ok, but at 800x600 it does the same thing.

Thanks MB.

Ill set the graph to autoscale. I think it makes it easier to read the lower values too.
