Detecting MBT with Virtual Dyno

I'm about to tune an Evo 8 using E85, short of an actual dyno, I can't think of any other method to detect MBT other than Virtual Dyno. I've read a couple of old posts regarding using VD to look for MBT, different people offer different approaches. Some say that speed should be included in the logged parameters, others say to log two parameters only, TBS & RPM-2byte), since that would offer a better logging resolution. The other issue is VD smoothing, someone suggested to use the max smoothing setting at 20 for the best resolution in detecting increases/decreases in power.

I'd appreciate your feedback

You will absolutely not find MBT on E85 without a proper dyno. VD is way too inconsistent for something like that.
