As you get older you acquire more assets, like a home w/ equity, 401K/Pension, and extra cash. You can lose all this if you crash in a street race and are under insured.

But on to parts, does anyone know of someone that has bought a CARB IC piping kit and transfer the "Sticker" to say an ETS IC piping kit?

Yeah there are some groups out theres with some crazy stuff. Lots of domestics these days. I don't participate as its just too much risk and money for me. I actually want to start tracking my evo while its still stock and build as I get better.

Bad idea. They look up the CARB # and there are photos of the product and they compare.

If these smog laws ever come to a sate I live in, I'll just be taking the Evo off the street and I'll get a car I can leave stock or modify with approved parts. This **** is just not worth it to drive a noisy tin can car on the street.

OP, the car really needs to go back to stock with a stock tune. You're not going to sneak much by a ref. You can get away with some things at a regular smog station, but when you go to a ref they already know you are trying to skirt the rules and are looking for literally anything that is out of place/modified/not oem.

What is everyone's opinion about registering the car out of state such as South Dakota under a different name? South Dakota doesn't require you to live there to register the car and doesn't have any smog requirements.

You will trade 1 headache for another. If pulled over and cops see your license and evo owner names match but addresses are different, you better have a good excuse why you are driving your evo in CA. Then your insurance company could give you problems next. Pick your poison.

The car would be registered under a different name.

People do it. Set up an out of state shell corp then transfer the title to the corp and register it out of state. It's still not legal though and cops aren't dumb they know people do this. No idea what happens to you if you get caught. I can't imagine its good though otherwise you would see folks doing this all the time. Also insurance is gonna be tricky.

Best option is to learn to swap your cams if you want to enjoy FBO power in between. Otherwise, only do the easy mods and stop there to keep the swaps simple.

if you are okay with someone else owning your vehicle, that is honestly the best way to do it. then all you have to do is make sure that the person is okay with giving you a way to pay insurance and registration fees. They also have to be okay with the risk of you driving a vehicle and them being responsible. It's not unlike most of us probably did when we were kids and had a car in our parents names LOL at least you could hold onto the pink slip with their signature on it, to make it look like you were about to purchase the vehicle.
Of course, if it ever gets impounded or towed for some reason, they are most likely going to have to travel here to get it LOL

Oooh. I guess I never considered cams a bolt-on part, so it didn't click

Maybe an aftermarket crank is considered a bolt-on as well?

I guess anything that isn't welded or glued to the chassis is a "bolt on"
