Utec Launch Control
Utec Launch Control
For those who have a utec, I have been running into problems trying to get my launch control to work correctly. I go into the user constants, switch it on (INJ option), set my launch control to 5500, but the car doesn't let me rev past that for normal driving.....I go into the display mode and see the (*) showing it's activated all the time, even with the clutch up. Is there something that needs to be adjusted on the clutch. I have an Excedy Hyper Single, and had the pushrod adjusted, but I've been told that shouldn't make a difference. The car doesn't start without the clutch being pressed in. I can't figure out why it shows the launch control always engaged...Do I need to adjust the clutch switch? If so, how? Any help would be much appreciated.

First, verify your switch position (make sure its on one or two)
Put the car in neutral and try to start the car WITHOUT touching the clutch..
If it starts, you need to adjust the clutch switch (the safety switch).. Climb under the dash and look for the switch on the clutch pedal, trace the wires and verify their connected, also make sure the switch itself is fully depressed by the arm of the clutch pedal..
you can verify this by looking at the UTEC Dashboard, if the clutch pedal looks like its seated pretty close to the switch, watch the computer (and that star on the dashboard) pull the clutch pedal TOWARD you when the car is in neutral and running, see if the star goes away.. At that point you know the switch needs minor adjustment.
Now.. BEFORE I start researching some of the ways to adjust the pedal travel and if there's any adjustment on the switch..
1) Do you have a turbo timer?
2) Do you have an alarm with Remote Start?
Those two items in some cases will require the clutch switch to be bypassed or tapped into.. so verify your documentation for those devices.

Ok.. now that I read your post the second time, you cannot start the car without the clutch fully depressed.. so try pulling the pedal towards you (I don't recall but I think there may be two sets of contacts on the switch) But again.. verify that an alarm or turbo timer doesn't tap into the wire (or the wiring harness from it) Most of these devices come with pre-wired harnesses, so verify the instructions to see whether or not that may be it.
There's no reason why this shouldnt work unless the signal isn't getting to the ECU, there's always the possibility that the wiring to the ECU or a connector is damaged.. but I find that to be highly unlikely.. So verify everything first.
