I'm not really sure what is confusing people.. Basically the UTEC's serial connection goes to your Laptop/PC.. If you get the tuner, you run the cable from the UTEC to the Tuner, and connect the Tuner to your Laptop.. The only major difference you would see if you are running the tuner with a utec, is the log (1 and shift-1) shows AFR as the last column, and there is some difference in the menu, there's a "Tuna" option at the bottom, and the UTEC dashboard shows AFR...

So basically whether you have the Tuner, UTEC, or both, you only use one serial port on your PC.. There's no need to lose sleep over anything..

the TUNER Pro has a connector for several analog inputs and digital, and two Analog AFR outputs, one of the inputs is where you would hook up the EGT probe, If you were to use the Tuner as a standalone unit, you can hook up TPS, and RPM and you can see the TPS, MAP, RPM, In1, in2, EGT, and AFR...

Here's the small glitch with the Tuner/UTEC combo, the Tuner Pro only appends AFR to your UTEC logs, plus TurboXS has not officially released an EGT probe kit for the Tuner Pro (that I'm aware of or that they have sent me) so if you have an EGT probe attached to a Tuner Pro, the data is never seen unless you have the Tuner Pro showing its log data, anyone who switches over to the Tuner interface will notice that it doesnt get its MAP/TPS/RPM values from the UTEC directly so those logs only show AFR and EGT (if its connected)

The one thing we will like to see in the future Tuner firmware upgrades is the ability to choose what data to append to UTEC's Logging and display.. This way you can hook up the additional inputs.. And/OR, the Tuner's logging should be aware of the UTEC being connected and import the data that is required..

What I plan on doing when I get my EGT probe hooked up for the time being, is since BOTH units log at the same rate is use Two serial ports on my laptop, and rewrite my software to gather data from BOTH units and display them and log it to one log file.. this way I can utilize that device, or using snapshot samples, I can use a PLXDevices Wideband instead.. the big disadvnatage is requiring two serial ports (I have a 4 port USB device that I got for integrating several different analog/digital data aquisition devices together.. )

We'll see the direction this goes in.. We Know they are aware of what we need.. for the standard Tuner user (not tuner pro) those inputs don't exist and therefore there is nothing additional on the Tuner thats worth looking at as part of UTEC logging.

Haven't voted or anything because I haven't decided what to do yet. Looking for some advice here.

My mods are listed below in my sig. If I want to do anything further (cams, WI, turbo upgrade) I'll probably need some sort of EM tuning equipment. I've been trying to stay away from this, but I'm pretty much at the limit of a flash.
I'm also extremely fustrated with this P0300 vibration and CEL I keep getting.
So, I figured I could solve both issues with a UTEC. I have a local tuner who is great with them and Subies, and I know he's tuned at least 1 for an Evo before - so no worries there.

What does everything think? As my mods stand now, would the Utec solve my P0300 problem for good AND allow me to extract some extra HP out of the vehicle as is?

Thx.

As i have gathered here in the last months. The Utec is one of t he BEST Engine Management systems besides the AEM. The Utec is ALOT easier to tune than an AEM. The AEM will take you weeks to setup correctly as it completely eliminates the stock ECU. ThE Utec on the other hand acts like a piggyback to your stock ecu but has alot of power. If tuned correctly can give some awesome results. From my research here i see Tampaturbo making 420whp on pump gas and Justrick making 550whp on pump as well on a GT35r with outstanding results. Its all about the tuning in the end.

Malibujack, how much HP does your car make.

Since I don't frequently dyno tune, I don't really know the number but I'd guess around 380.. Most of my tuning is road tuning with a software "Dyno" type app so I can see my gains on back to back runs, but I wouldn't generally use the numbers as a direct comparison to other dynos. I've got a few high 11 second runs on a basically stock engine and turbo so it seems about right.

Jack, send me a PM or drop me an email when you can racolon@centennialpr.com Im really searching on the EMS I will use, I had UTEC on my WRX right now people keep saying AEM is the best for the EVO but I think I can save the money and buy a UTEC, and since everyone here thinks you are the UTEC guru let me know. Thanks for your time

Mods I want to use:
Full Exhaust
Still deciding on CAMS
Injen Intake kit
Fuel Pump
BOV (Greddy Type RS, people keep saying it will make my car stall)

I really need some advice here.
Thanks
Randy
