Difference between GSC S-Series and 280/280 cams?

What is the difference between the S-series cams (S1, s2, s3) compared to the others I see advertised for the EVO IX like the 280/280 that TTp sells?

the 280/280 are the first version.. they produced some hp... but no where near $600 worth...

the s1 s2 s3 are the new ones.. looking at your mods you want to go with the s1 cut. s2 and s3 is for bigger turboed cars

cheers!

the 280/280 mivec cams are kind of the middle of the S1 S2. they will make the same peak power as the S1 cams and have spool like the S2, but on a larger turbo the S2 will make more power than the 280/280.

the S1 makes close to the same peak as the 280s but the low and middle range is much higher. so there are advantages there.

If I did go a bigger turbo, lets say White Rabbit or something of the likes, will the S1's become a restriction?

I looked at the AMS thread once again and the mid-range these cams provide is amazing, along with a little more umph from the top end...I'm really really considering these.

Thanks for the help Greg!

Well the s1's flow better then stock, But you might loose a little top end if you turn the boost way up

Doesn't look like there is much loss top end at all actually...

But damn the S1's are looking damn enticing.

Right, it seems between this or a FPgreen. But I just wanted to throw it out so that i would get the feedback based on the size i was shooting for. I'm def not going to go crazy like a 35r or anything but wanted to see how the S1 cams would be for a Green or WR turbo.

I think the S1's would be a perfect match for those turbos. The S2's, from what I've read from Greg and others here are more for the 35R size turbos's, and the S3's are for all out full race setups.

Sweet! Sounds like the S1's are for me.

Any idea on upgrading the valvetrain for these? Are springs/retainers suggested? I've heard install on those is expen$ive and if so, then I may have to pass right now on even the cams as I dont want to do the cams without the valvetrain upgrade.

I just hope by not doing the valve train upgrade it doesn't come back and bite me in the rear, I guess I just need more reassurance

Greg can answer better than me, but S1's shouldn't need an upgraded valvetrain. Unless you want to get crazy with your rev limiter, say over 8200 rpm's or so, the stock springs/retainers should be fine.

Yeah going that high in the RPM's shouldn't benefit me anyways cause the stock turbo looses efficiency...Maybe keep the redline around 7800ish or whatever keeps me out of trouble with the valvetrain.
